  • December 1, 2021

Category: Free event, Lecture, panel and Music

A new variety of musical experience is coming to Maryville! Enjoy anecdotes and entertainment on a monthly basis from local and nationally-acclaimed musicians, singers and songwriters.

Lee Zimmerman is the host for Songs and Stories from the Bird and the Book, which will take place the first Wednesday of every month from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Songs and Stories from the Bird and the Book offers an opportunity not only to share an intimate listening experience with artists performing their songs in stripped down settings, but also to learn about the craft and creativity that goes into their music and performance. Think “The Actor’s Studio,” but geared to musicians.

Admission is free.

The first Songs and Stories will take place on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 and will spotlight acclaimed Nashville singer/songwriter Dana Cooper. A recipient of the Heritage Musician award from the Pilgrim Center for the Arts, Folk Alliance International's 2015 Spirit of Folk award and numerous Best of the Year kudos for both album and individual excellence, he’s performed at any number of major festivals, venues and gathering places where the folk faithful tend to gather in order to express appreciation and admiration for those that carry that tradition forward. So too, his songs have been covered by a veritable who’s who of today’s leading lights — Maura O’Connell, Pierce Pettis, Susan Werner, Claire Lynch and Trout Fishing in America, among them. His career trajectory extends back nearly 50 years, beginning with his eponymous major label debut in 1973. To date, he’s released no less than 15 albums, including four this past decade alone. His new album, I Can Face the Truth, will be released early next year.
