UT Creative Writing Series: An Evening with Actor and Screenwriter Tracy Dawson

The UT Creative Writing Program is excited to present an evening with actor, screenwriter, and author Tracy Dawson. The event will take place September 23 at 7pm in the Lindsey Young Auditorium of John C. Hodges Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Tracy Dawson is an award-winning actor, screenwriter and author. Her book, Let Me Be Frank: A Book About Women Who Dressed Like Men to Do Shit They Weren’t Supposed to Do, came out in 2022 from HarperCollins.

Tracy began her career on the alternative comedy stages of Toronto, and as a mainstage performer at The Second City. In 2009 Tracy's play, them & us, was produced by the prestigious Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto. That same year she won an emerging TV writer award at the Banff World Television Festival. She was both a writer and lead actor on the Canadian sitcom Call Me Fitz and won both the Gemini Award and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work opposite Jason Priestley on that show.

Tracy has worked as a writer on several American and Canadian television series and she has sold and developed several of her own TV projects on both sides of the border. She is currently working on the screen adaptation of her book and developing a feature film project with actress Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). She is a regular screenwriting mentor at CineStory in Idyllwild and an invited mentor at Nostos Screenwriting Retreat in Tuscany, Italy. She recently traveled to Luxembourg to present a masterclass talk at the 2024 Luxembourg Film Festival. Tracy was born in Ottawa, Canada, and currently lives in Los Angeles with her life partner Isaac, who is a dog.
