The Jeff Cregger Band is a supergroup power trio of veterans who are grounded in rock, pop, blues and rockabilly.

Celebrate Labor Day at the Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the Labor Day Sunflower Project. This event brings people together to create something special for everyone to enjoy.

Bring your sunflowers with 18-inch stems to help weave them into a large circle of flowers, symbolizing the beauty and strength of collective effort. The event also features live music, tasty food, and plenty of flowers. It’s a great chance to gather with friends, neighbors, and fellow flower lovers to create a unique Knoxville art installation. Join us for a morning of community, creativity, and colorful sunflowers as we celebrate the power of working together!

Since 1981, Cecelia Condit’s videos have created heroines whose lives swing between beauty and the grotesque, innocence and cruelty, youth and fragility. Her work puts a subversive spin on the traditional mythology of women in film and the psychology of sexuality and violence. Exploring the dark side of female subjectivity, her “feminist fairy tales” focus on friendships, age, and the natural world.

The Ewing Gallery of Art + Architecture will be exhibiting a rotating selection of Condit’s short films as well as a monumental installation of her latest film, A Parable of Now — a triptych that represents Condit’s reaction to the environmental crisis and our uncertain futures.

Mary Bow
Images of many different animals, both domesticated and wild, are rendered in thickly applied acrylic paint on textured canvases using a dry brush technique that allows successive layers of color to show through. Bow hopes to provoke empathy for non-human animals as they live, raise their young and experience joy, sorrow and pain. Mary Bow has degrees in Anthropology, Psychology, and Visual Art, as well as higher degrees in Education. She feels that she has a unique perspective on how human relationships with others in the animal kingdom have changed over time. www.marypbow.com

Curt Imerman’s finely detailed drawings of barns are created by using fine-tipped pens as a brush rather than an instrument to draw lines. As the tip of the pen wears away from use, it produces lighter and finer lines, allowing different effects. Imerman says, “Barns are disappearing from our country’s landscape at an ever-increasing rate. Barns are a part of our Americana. This is my way of memorializing and sharing my fascination with old, weathered barns.” Imerman’s attention to detail comes from his career as a mechanical designer for a major U.S. crane manufacturer. While designing cranes, Curt’s drawing talent was called upon to prepare conceptual drawings of various lift crane designs. He is a member of the Art Market Gallery in Knoxville and serves on their Board of Directors.

The WDVX Blue Plate Special is a live performance radio show held at noon at Visit Knoxville (301 S. A portion of the proceeds for downtown tours go to help fund the work of the non-profit Knoxville History Project. Capoeira Fundo da Mata is the Knoxville chapter of UCA. We train at the Sustainable Future Center (map) on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30. Classes are $5 and the first class is free.

The classes are led by Instructors Bode and Odisseu who have over 15 years of experience each in capoeira and are under the instruction of Mestre Avestruz who has nearly 40 years of experience. Capoeira is a great combination of exercise, mobility, fun movement and expression, as well as music and Brazilian culture.

We dance to live music every Monday night, 8-11 pm, at the Laurel Theater (16th St. and Laurel Ave.)

Fee: $8 ($5 for students & those just listening). If this is your first time, come a few minutes early and join our new dancer workshop, where we teach the basics. Beginners are welcome, no partner or experience is required. It's easy and fun! With very rare exceptions we dance every Monday night. All dances will be taught. We dance in the historic Laurel Theater, to preserve our dance floor, we request that you wear or bring clean, non-marking, soft-soled or leather shoes for dancing.
