R&B, Soul, and Funk music at Maple Hall on February 23rd! Rare gems alongside your favorite classics!
Intro dance class (7:00-7:45pm)! Kelly Arsenault and Scott Angelius teach a fun class on incorporating Carolina Shag footwork into your dancing!
Cover: $10 for everything, or join us after the lesson for $5. Cash is preferred, but we gladly accept Venmo and PayPal. No dance experience needed: Come listen to the tunes, grab a drink or snack and chill, or learn something new. Everyone welcome. No dance partner required: Whether you're bringing friends or looking to meet some, everyone's invited! All dance styles welcome: Swing, Carolina shag, blues, wcs, salsa, cha-cha, bachata all have rhythms that work well to the music. And, of course, solo dancing is encouraged!
We honor and respect Black American artforms. We pay tribute to the roots of the music we play and the dances we love, the vast majority of which are born from Black American artistry, expressing resistance against hardships. 10% of The Sunday Get Down's proceeds go to The Bottom, a nonprofit community center and Black-affirming bookshop. They strive to build community, celebrate culture, and engage the creativity of Black people in Knoxville. We expect all attendees to contribute to a safe, harassment-free environment, embracing diversity in all its forms. Let's dance, learn, and celebrate together! https://www.facebook.com/events/589641664044953
GO! Contemporary Dance
Category: Dance, movement
GO! Contemporary Dance Works presents the return of its wildly popular ballet, ALICE in Wonderland on February 22 & 23 at the historic Bijou Theatre, 803 S. Gay Street. A Knoxville fan-favorite, ALICE: A Revolutionary Ballet is hailed as one of GO! Contemporary Dance Works’ most beloved works, narrating the world of Wonderland with eye-popping visuals, gravity-defying aerials, and stunning set design. Lisa Hall McKee’s spectacular production reimagines this classic story in a whimsical style set to famous scores by George Bizet, Leo Delibes, and others. ALICE will pull its audience down the rabbit hole to meet instantly recognizable characters like the nervous white rabbit, a spinning Mad Hatter, and a terrifying Queen of Hearts.
This large-scale production includes a cast of over 70 talented dancers with work from six choreographers, featuring professionals and a lead guest artist from New York City.
This revolutionary ballet integrates vibrant costuming, elaborate scenery, and animated
projection to bring the colorful wonderland to life on the Bijou Theatre stage.
This will be GO!’s 21st season performance with showtimes on Saturday, February 22nd at 2:00 and 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 23rd at 2:00 PM and may be purchased at gocontemporarydance.com via Ticketmaster. Prices range from $25-35 in advance to $40 at the door. GO! is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
