Bijou Theatre: Eddie Kowalczyk (of Live)

Category: Music

The 90's saw the rise of many great bands and musicians. One was Live, fronted by Eddie Kowalczyk. Live was one of the most successful and enduring alternative rock bands of the 1990's and 2000's. One of the main things that enabled Live to maintain a devoted fan base is the substantial and durable nature of their lyrics, which have often reflected Kowalczyk's personal and spiritual concerns. The former frontman is now offering and accentuating these songs and more in a more intimate setting through his solo-acoustic performances. Tickets on sale at 865-522-0832 or www.knoxbijou.com

Ijams Nature Center: Teacher Workshop: Discover Life in America

Category: Science, nature

Discover Life in America (DLIA) is the non-profit organization coordinating the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The ATBI seeks to identify every species that exists in the national park. Some scientists estimate that up to 100,000 species live in the park, and so far a little over 12,000 species have been documented. As of June 2008, DLIA's ATBI program has discovered 877 species new to science and 5,251 species previously not known to inhabit the park. This workshop is about biodiversity and how to use the free biodiversity boxes that DLIA has for teachers. The workshop is free and teachers receive credit for class. To register call 577-4717 ext. 10. Visit www.ijams.org.
