Knoxville Choral Society Fall Concert: Handel's Messiah
Many choral music lovers will tell you that the holiday season doesn't truly begin until you've heard Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus. Knoxville Choral Society (KCS) will be ringing in this year's festivities in our city's premier venue, the Tennessee Theatre, singing the beloved "Hallelujah" plus other well-known selections from Handel's masterwork Messiah: "For Unto Us a Child Is Born," "Glory to God," "And He Shall Purify," and more. We'll also present the sprightly cantata Sleepers, Wake! by J.S. Bach. You won't want to miss these glorious works performed in such a grand setting! KCS will also perform an encore of Messiah in Greeneville at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 3:00 p.m. and in Crossville at the Cumberland County Playhouse on Friday, Dec. 4, at 8:00 p.m.

Jubilee Community Arts: Four Leaf Peat
Jubilee Community Arts will hold a fundraising event to support general operations at the Laurel Theater featuring a silent auction beginning at 7:15 and music by Four Leaf Peat beginning at 8 pm. The auction will offer the work of local artists as well as donations from area individuals and businesses. Income from the auction supports general operations at Jubilee Community Arts. Born out of Irish traditional music in pub sessions, Four Leaf Peat brings together musicians from various backgrounds. The band is influenced by Ireland's traditional pipers, fiddlers and singers; they owe a debt to innovators of the music such as the Bothy Band, Planxty, Dervish, Lunasa, and Danu. Four Leaf Peat is Chad Beauchaine on Fiddle; Gil Draper on guitar, bouzouki and mandolin; Rick Hall on hammer dulcimer, bones and bodhran; and Jason Herrera on vocals, bodhran, flute and whistle. Whether it's lively jigs and reels, slow airs, or songs, the spirit that gave birth to Irish traditional music can be felt in every set. The Laurel Theater is located on the corner of 16th and Laurel Avenue in the historic Fort Sanders neighborhood of Knoxville near the UT campus. For additional information call (865) 522-5851 or email concerts @ jubileearts.org.

Roane State: Death of a Salesman
By Arthur Miller. Powerful story which addresses the painful conflicts within one family, but also tackles larger issues regarding American national values. The play examines the cost of blind faith in the American Dream. In this respect, it offers a postwar American reading of personal tragedy in the tradition of Sophocles' Oedipus Cycle. Miller charges America with selling a false myth constructed around a capitalist materialism nurtured by the postwar economy, a materialism that obscured the personal truth and moral vision of the original American Dream described by the country's founders. Roane State Theatre, Harriman. November 13-15, 20-22 at 7 pm; November 15 & 22 at 2pm. All performances subject to change. Check website periodically for updated information.
