Farragut Town Hall: Rocky Top Decorative Painters
The Town of Farragut Arts Council announces the Rocky Top Decorative Painters of East Tennessee (RTDP) as the October Featured Artist of the Month, in honor of National Decorative Painting Month. An exhibit showcasing the organization's work will be on display at the Farragut Town Hall. The exhibit features painted pieces by various members of RTDP, some representative of folk art and others fine art. Also featured are hand-painted ornaments for the organization's tree at East Tennessee Children's Hospital's annual "Fantasy of Trees". RTDP was chartered in 1981 by the Society of Decorative Painters, an international organization of nearly 23,000 artist members. The chapter has 88 members and meets monthly at Second United Methodist Church in Knoxville to pursue a diverse art form using a variety of techniques and media. Members contribute treasure boxes for Shriners hospitals and children's homes and memory boxes for area hospitals, as well as offer painting classes and seminars on decorative painting, watercolors and oils. Knoxville Botanical Gardens & Arboretum: Hypertufa How-To

Hypertufa is an artificial stone made from a few simple ingredients, used to create planting containers and garden art. Knoxville Botanical Garden Senior Gardener Mathew McMillan will show you how easy it is to make beautiful faux stone containers to liven up your garden. The class will cover materials, forms, colorants, and more. This will be a two part class; at our first meeting you will be making your own hypertufa container. Our second meeting will cover further ways to artificially age and finish your container. This also includes an hour long basic container planting class where you will be able to plant your hypertufa container. All materials will be provided including plant material for the second session. Things can get messy so dress accordingly.

UT School of Art: Public Lecture by Adelaide Paul
Paul's sculptures explore as she puts it, "... the alternately cloyingly sentimental and brutally callous relationship between humans and animals, both domesticated and wild." The lecture will take place in Art and Architecture room 105. It is free and open to the public. Adelaide Paul is currently represented by Wexler Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Pacini Lubel Gallery, Seattle Washington. Adelaide Paul teaches Ceramics at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and Gross Anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia.

Unless otherwise noted, all UT School of Music concerts are FREE and open to the public, and are held in the Music Hall Auditorium at the UT School of Music, located at 1741 Volunteer Blvd., or in one of three performance halls in the Alumni Memorial Building located at 1408 Middle Drive on the campus of the University of Tennessee. (The James R. Cox Auditorium is located in the Alumni Memorial Building.)

UT Downtown Gallery: Beyond Surface
An invitational ceramics exhibition featuring the work of eight nationally-celebrated ceramicists. Please join us for a First Friday Reception October 2 from 5-9pm. The exhibition includes works by Pennsylvania artist Adelaide Paul who will be present at the reception, North Carolina artist and UT Alumus Michael Kline, Bonnie Seeman from Florida, and Georgia artists: Ron Meyers, Ted Saupe, Sunkoo Yuh, Andy Nasisse and Lauren Gallaspy. Ted Saupe, current head of the ceramics area at the University of Georgia, taught ceramics at UT from 1980 through 1992.
