Holiday Musicale to Benefit UT Music Scholarships

The School of Music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is holding a benefit concert to raise money for the program's scholarship funds. The Holiday Musicale will be held at the Foundry at World’s Fair Park and will feature a wide variety of music performed by students and faculty of the School of Music, along with holiday food and drink. The evening will feature music of the season. Music will be provided by the Jazz Quintet, the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, the Flute Choir, and the UT Faculty String Quartet. Hors d'oeuvres and wine will be served. A cash bar also will be available. The Holiday Musicale is sponsored by Sheena McCall, a wealth management advisor at Merrill Lynch. Reservations for the Holiday Musicale are required by Tuesday, Dec. 1. The suggested donation is $60 per person. Additional scholarship donations also will be accepted. Old North Knoxville's 21st Annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour

Twelve historic homes will be decorated and open to the public. Enjoy the candlelight tour on Saturday, Dec. 5, when the 12 houses will be open from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. The tour resumes on Sunday, 12:30 to 5 p.m. Free parking will be offered at the St. Mary's Hospital Woodland Avenue parking lot. There will be free bus rides to all of the homes, or you may walk through the neighborhood. You should allow two to three
hours to complete the tour. Tickets are now available at Kroger stores. The cost for an early-bird ticket is $9. Tickets will also be available at St. Mary's Hospital on the day of the tour. Prices then will be $12 for adults and $9 for senior citizens. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult. If you are coming with a group of 20 or more, you may purchase at a group rate for $8 per ticket. Proceeds from this event are returned to the community through donations to Meals-on-Wheels, Knox Heritage, the Fulton Alumni Scholarship Association, and Christenberry Elementary School PTA. The Appalachian Ballet Company's production of The Nutcracker has been a tradition for area school systems for 37 years. Now in their 38th season, Appalachian Ballet Company will present two school matinees on Dec. 3rd & 4th at 10 am, at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. Ticket prices are $5 for students and one chaperone free per 10 students. Extra chaperones are $10.

Educator, Cathy Dickinson has compiled a new updated curriculum in which the teachers may use to help guide their students through the Nutcracker experience. Lesson plans will be mailed with the school reservation.

Showtime runs 125 minutes. This is not an abbreviated production. Your students will see the full length Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker is a wonderful way to ring in the holidays and introduce young children to the power and beauty of classical ballet. The Art Market Gallery of Knoxville will feature the work of two member artists, Lynnda Tenpenny, mixed media and Pat Fitch, painted toys & furniture.
