East Tennessee Technology Access Center: 2010 Toy Tech Party
Category: Festivals, special events and Kids, family
Adapted toys are for children with disabilities who can’t play with typical off-the-shelf toys. This party will also feature food, games, crafts, and a visit from Santa! Children may receive a switch adapted toy at our annual holiday party if they pre-register. We will also assess the need for and type of adapted switch - providing a free switch if possible (dependant on donations and individual needs). Children must be registered but do not have to attend the party to receive a toy. ETTAC is also still in need of donations of new battery operated toys to adapt for children. If you, your family, your church, or your place of business can help, please call!

Arts & Culture Alliance: "Fw: Fw: Re: Zek" by Award-Winning Slovenian Artists
Category: Exhibitions, visual art
The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition of thirteen paintings entitled “Fw: Fw: Re: Zek†by award-winning Slovenian artists, opening Friday, December 3, at 5:00 PM in the Balcony of the Emporium Center. The works on exhibit are printed on lenticular panels, giving the illusion of depth and animation as the image is viewed from different angles. Examples of lenticular printing include prizes given in Cracker Jack snack boxes that showed flip and animation effects such as winking eyes, and modern advertising graphics that change their message depending on the viewing angle. The Zek Crew brings that process to the art of painting. Not only are the paintings unique, but so too are the eight artists featured in the exhibition. The young painters are all former graffiti and street artists who are part of a creative collective known as the Zek Crew. Formed in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2001, the Zek Crew members turned their talents for street graffiti into a design cooperative, and their members now include graphic and industrial designers, typographers, illustrators, an architect and a VJ. The Zek Crew is best known for its award-winning internet comic generator, the Stripgenerator. In 2009, Zek Crew was recognized for its custom-made billboards, winning the prestigious Grand Brumen Award at the Fourth Biennial of Slovene Visual Communication. The members have been the focus of numerous exhibitions and graffiti events across Europe, including Italy’s Biennale of Young Artists in 2008 and Belgrade Design Week in 2009. For more information on the Zek Crew, visit www.zek.si.
“Fw: Fw: Re: Zek†will be displayed in the Balcony at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, from December 3-23, 2010. An opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on December 3 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with additional hours on Saturday, December 4, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM as part of the Emporium Holiday Extravaganza. Popcorn balls and paper chains… Fruits and nuts in their stockings … Carols by the fire … A cedar tree cut in the nearby woods- that’s the Christmas most rural Appalachian children knew. And it's the Christmas we recreate each year throughout the Museum village at our special Christmas in Old Appalachia.
Sing Christmas carols along with musicians in the Homestead House, where they'll be singing holiday and traditional songs every day during December. Sit and visit with the kids over some hot chocolate and Christmas cookies from the Museum Restaurant.
