Farragut Arts Council: Works by Douglas James Ferguson and Francis W. McCulloch

Now on display at Farragut Town Hall, Farragut Arts Council member Pam Ziegler is showcasing her collection of "Woodland Creature and Dogwood Blossom Pottery" by Douglas James Ferguson. Founder of Pigeon Forge Pottery (which closed in 2000), Ferguson created internationally known handmade pottery for more than 50 years. In addition, Farragut resident Carlyle Urello has loaned her collection, "Butterflies of the World," by McCulloch.

The Carpetbag Theatre: Home Grown at the Garden featuring The Cooking Show con Karimi & Comrades

The Carpetbag Theater presents the 2011 Home Grown at the Garden Series consisting of touring works, local artists, and original works of The Carpetbag Theatre.
On August 25 and 28, The Carpetbag theater will present The Cooking Show con Karimi & Comrades. The Cooking Show con Karimi & Comrades is a live cooking performance for your mind, heart, stomach & funny bone that the Associated Press called “a globally flavored recipe that packs some punch lines.†Chef Mero Cocinero Karimi creates revolutionary recipes LIVE onstage, serving up stories and delicious culinary samples, guaranteeing every audience member their own satisfying taste.

Ijams Nature Center: Wee Ones: Water Wonders

Bijou Theatre Center: Jack’s Mannequin with Augustana

After his hard-working punk-pop quintet Something Corporate decided to take a break in the summer of 2004, Andrew McMahon found himself writing a batch of confessional piano-driven songs that explored his return home to Orange County. With the help of several musician friends, McMahon began recording Everything in Transit under the moniker Jack’s Mannequin.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Haitian Art Exhibition

The Knoxville Museum of Art hosts an exhibition of original Haitian art in the Community Gallery through September 4. Works in the exhibition will be sold at a silent benefit auction on Sunday, August 28 2-4pm. Must be present to bid. The sale will also include works done by local artists. The exhibition and sale are organized by God’s Planet for Haiti to benefit the Community Elementary School of Hatte-Cotin, Haiti. UT Downtown Gallery: GOES TO ELEVEN: 1st Year Graduate Exhibition

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to exhibit the work of our first year graduate students who are entering the UT School of Art Graduate program within their various disciplines. The exhibit showcases the outstanding talent and artistic visions of these new students, which includes painting, printmaking, graphic design and sculpture works.

The Wild Thyme Players: Drop-In Acting Classes

The Wild Thyme Players will offer a DROP-IN ACTING CLASS every Thursday in the Annex at The Emporium, 100 S. Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. This class is open to actors of all experience levels and will have a different focus each week, such as improv, monologues, or practice auditions. Students should wear comfortable clothes, as the class will include movement exercises. The class will be taught by EMILY SOLEIL, a graduate of the Boston University College of Fine Arts. Emily has studied and performed in Boston, Los Angeles, Orange County, and Salt Lake City. The fee is $8 per class.

Emporium Center: Enlightenment, a Spiritual and Metaphysical Art Exhibition and Holistic Fair

“Enlightenmentâ€, a juried exhibition developed to allow regional artists to compete and display work at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville. The exhibition is hosted by the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville and coordinated by Carole Truelove and Shawn Kincaid with juror Mark Hall of Maryville College. The selected art will feature contemporary 2- and 3-dimensional artwork that is spiritual, metaphysical, or energy-based. A reception and presentation of awards takes place on First Friday, August 5, from 5:00-9:00 PM.
