Hanson Gallery: Eleanor Miller + Greg Decker exhibition

Eleanor Miller captures the essence of creation and life in her ethereal landscape

Arts & Culture Alliance: Art Awakenings Exhibition

featuring works by Shawn Kincaid, Dina Loukota, Wes Loukota, and Rufus S. Morgan, MD. The exhibition is coordinated by Shawn Kincaid and Dina Loukota, who first met in 2005 at an Arrowmont class. The two artists have since supported and encouraged each other in their art and taken many classes together. The idea for this exhibition title emerged because these artists spend so much time at their jobs and teaching classes that they rarely have time for their own work. “This is truly an ‘art awakening’ for us because it is our first full exhibition,†says Kincaid.
The exhibition will be displayed in the Balcony at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from June 4-25, 2010, and an opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on June 4 from 5:00-9:00 PM.

Arts & Culture Alliance: "Anomaly" Art Event Showcasing Southern LGBTIQ Artists

“Anomaly†is an art event showcasing Southern LGBTIQ artists and celebrating the human community at the Emporium Center. “Anomaly†features four established artists working in the South: Ethan Bach, S. Beth Bishop, Jessica Gregory, and coordinator Zophia Kneiss, as well as a diverse selection of local talent and emerging artists curated by Denise Stewart-Sanabria. “Anomaly†will display sculptures, paintings, and poetry from June 4-25 as well as video-media art at the opening reception on First Friday, June 4, 5:00-9:00 PM. “Anomaly†coincides with the nation’s Pride celebration and invites local LGBTIQ organizations to network and be artistically involved within the community. “This diverse event serves to foster a dialogue informed by the awareness that all people have common and individual struggles, no matter how they outwardly identify,†says show coordinator Zophia Kneiss. “It also seeks to depict art as a triumph of human expression as well as the power of speaking openly about one’s identity.â€

Knox Heritage: Art & Architecture Tour Photography Exhibition

The artworks featured are photographs submitted to Knox Heritage’s Photography Contest, with ten winning photographs comprising the exhibition. An opening reception will take place on Friday, June 4, from 5:00-9:00 PM. Submissions from photographers from across the sixteen-county region resulted in over 100 photographs of Downtown North subjects for the seven-member jury panel to review. Department of Energy Facilities Public Bus Tour with guide commentary, Monday through Friday, except government holidays (July 5 & 6). Tour participants can register at AMSE beginning at 9 am. Must be U.S. citizen 10 years of age and up. Photo ID required. Seating limited. First come, first served. Off the bus stops include Y-12 New Hope Visitor Center; Spallation Neutron Source Lobby and Graphite Reactor, both at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; and K-25 Overlook. No advance reservations. American Museum of Science & Energy: "SNOOPY as the World War I Flying Ace"

The PEANUTS strips have made museum visits both nationally and internationally including a monumental exhibit in 1990 at the Louvre in Paris. Forty of Snoopy’s Flying Ace adventures will be on displayed at the American Museum of Science and Energy along with fine art print examples of the Flying Ace by Tom Everhart, the only artist authorized by Charles Schulz to artistically render PEANUTS. A selection of collectibles of unique Flying Ace merchandise and marketing items over the years will also be displayed along with items related to Charles Schulz and the rest of the PEANUTS characters.

Legacy Parks Foundation: Get Out! Series Returns

Warm weather is here and it's time to GET OUT! The GetOut! series of activities provides fun, recreational experiences to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the natural resources of our area. Activities are scheduled all summer for anyone interested in beginning or continuing biking, hiking, or paddling. A $10 donation to Legacy Parks Foundation is suggested for each activity.
