The Knoxville Museum of Art presents Streetwise: Masters of 1960s Photography May 4-August 5, 2012.

This exhibition highlights the work of a group of eight American photographers who focused their lenses on the rapid social and political changes that transformed the nation during the turbulent 1960s. The featured images present a realistic, sometimes dire, view of America surveying the “outlaw culture” of bikers and chain gangs, Boston’s red light district known as the Combat Zone, Black Panthers, the gritty streets and neighborhoods of New York, the politically charged South, and fringe communities and subcultures around the country.

The public is invited to a preview party Thursday, May 3 from 5:30-7:30pm. This event is free and includes a gallery talk and cash bar.

The museum is located in downtown Knoxville at 1050 World’s Fair Park and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10am–5pm, and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Admission and parking are free. For more information, contact Angela Thomas at 865.934.2034 or visit www.knoxart.org.

Bliss Home will feature Bill Timm for May First Friday. A reception will be held at Bliss Home, 29 Market Square, from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday May 4th.

Bill Timm is a metal sculptor residing in Knoxville, TN, but is from traces his roots to the steel capital fo the world: Pittsburgh, PA. For ten years, Bill has created abstract and realistic sculptures from found objects. Bill is a self taught abstract and metal fabricator who has received several regional and national awards for his sculptures.

Bill’s art is viewable beginning May 4th and will remain through the end of the month.

Every day, Knox County art teachers devote their time and energy to cultivating creativity and critical skills in their students. For more than a decade, Art Source, the exhibition dedicated solely to Knox County art educators, has given these same teachers an opportunity to nourish and showcase their own artistic talents.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition by the Merleville Watercolor Society entitled “Merleville Watercolor Society Hangs It Up”, featuring original watercolors and oils by 15 local artists. The exhibition will be displayed at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from May 4-25, 2012. An opening reception will take place as part of First Friday activities on May 4 from 5:00-9:00 PM.

The Merleville Watercolor Society first formed in 2007 when a small, eager group of art enthusiasts met at the home of Merle Hancox-Stair in Maryville. Merle, a seasoned artist, and Kay Alexander, a budding artist, had previously met at a workshop in Boone, North Carolina and discussed the idea of a painting group with whom to improve their watercolors and to encourage one another to develop their individual style. Over the past five years, this initial group of seven artists has grown to include fifteen members: Kay Alexander (Dandridge), Elaine Brekke (Knoxville), Lil Clinard (Tellico Village), Merle Hancox-Stair (Maryville), Mary Holley (Knoxville), Betty Kirkland (Farragut), Bonita Malone (Loudon County), Roy and Kate McCullough (Knoxville), Larry and Helen O'Connor (Knoxville), Rob and Jane Pearce (Knoxville), Doris Prichard (Knoxville), Linda Stutzenberger (Farragut)

This two man tour de force explores one day in the life of Tuna, Texas, the third smallest town in Texas. Veteran FCP actors, Tom Ireland and John Cherry portray an odd mix of characters, 20 in all, who live in Tuna. Ireland and Cherry must don wigs, hats, dresses, accents and personalities as they quickly morph into the various and quirkly residents of Tuna.
Greater Tuna began as a simple party skit over 25 years ago and has become a cultural phenomenon. This hilarious comedy will make you a Tuna fan forever.

Please join The Art Guild for the 14th Annual Spring Art Show to be held at the Tellico Village Community Church, 130 Chota Center, in Tellico Village, Loudon, TN. The Church is 12.2 miles from Exit 81 of Interstate 75. Take Hwy 321 to Hwy 444, go to Chota Rd and follow the signs. There is a Meet the Artists reception Friday May 4th from 7 to 9pm, featuring more than 200 art works of over 50 artists, live music and refreshments. The Show continues Saturday May 5 from 10am to 4pm and on Sunday, May 6th from 8am to 2pm.

This weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 4, 5, 6, 2012, visit the38th annual Street Rod Nationals South Plus, the region’s largest and most spectacular street rod, street machine and custom car show at Chilhowee Park & Expo Center in Knoxville.

See more than 2,900 street rods, muscle cars, custom cars, trucks and specialty vehicles from all over the South Eastern United States and farther, each manufactured more than 30 years ago at the least. Cars will be on display for public viewing throughout the day, while entered in a variety of events. Street of Rods, 29 Below Rodders, Pro’s Picks, NSRA Safety Inspections to name a few. Activities will be featured for all ages as well, many just for the children and ladies. Live entertainment will perform during the day and night time too.

Hours for the show:
Friday and Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Admission prices are $14 per adult, $5 per child (6 – 12 years old), and children 5 years and under FREE, when accompanied by an adult.
