We will still have prize drawings for the next two months. Violettes by Becky is donating 50% of profit from Music Art greeting cards and large Prints sales to Public School Music Departments*, and 20% of sales from music purses, earings, "Pick Banjos, Not Fights" T-shirts. Whimsical paintings by Becky are mostly based on practice tips for instruments, for Voice, for playing in band and orchestra, excuses that students make, musical animal humor.

*Funds will go to school that purchaser wants to represent.Funds from any undesignated purchases will go Knox County Music Department (downtown office).

Knoxville Children’s Theatre, in partnership with The Ritchie Company, will present 14 live performances featuring the hilarious characters of Barbara Park in “Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook.” This is the Knoxville premiere of the new play by acclaimed playwright Allison Gregory.

Something terrible has happened to Junie B. Jones! Someone stole her new furry mittens! So, when Junie B. finds a wonderful pen of many colors, she should be allowed to keep it, right? And there’s a new boy in class, and he’s the handsomest! But both Grace and Lucille want him to be their boyfriend. Maybe he will love Junie B. if he sees her wonderful pen. It is okay to keep it, right? Junie B. Jones is not a crook… or is she?

This funny play is chock full of the humorous life lessons that Barbara Park’s series of books is known for. The show is based on two of those books: “Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook” and “Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren.”

The play is performed by 11 talented young actors, from ages 8 to 12. Jillian Barry will perform the role of Junie B. Julia Lance and Caroline Simmons will play Junie’s friends, Grace and Lucille, respectively. Tanner White will perform the role of Handsome Warren.

Cindy & Ella, the Knoxville Theatre Club's inaugural production, runs September 22-23 & 29-30 at Modern Studio. It is based on the ancient folktale of Cinderella, but if you're only familiar with the Disney cartoon, the plot of this dark comedy may be a bit surprising. Stranded in the lifeless heart of Dust Bowl-era Oklahoma, and reeling from the traumatic death of her mother, young Cindy Wicket is left teetering on the brink of madness. When her scheming Aunt Eudora arrives claiming ownership of the home, a violent battle of wits and wills ensues. Meanwhile, Eudora's daughter Ella must wrestle with her own mounting desperation as she watches her hopes for the future vanish beneath dust, dead crops, and her mother's all-consuming greed. When a handsome young man from Chicago arrives offering to buy the land, the stage is set for a final conflict over control of the homestead and the fate of all who live there.

Cindy & Ella stars Theatre Knoxville Downtown President Bonny Pendleton, Raine Palmer (The Office, Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Midsummer Night's Dream), Chad Wood (Two Gentlemen of Verona, Tennessee Medieval Faire, Hamlet) and Maria Kauffman (Pride and Prejudice, Sleeping Beauty, The Crucible.) The show's co-creators Gaddis and JP Schuffman have been producing original work together in NYC, Nashville, and Knoxville since 2010. For thousands of years Northwest Coast Indians including the Coast Salish, Haida, Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw, Makah, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Tlingit peoples represented in this exhibition, have made art expressing their cultural norms and values with precision, clarity, and artistic exuberance. Using indigenous and trade materials obtained in their homes along the coast of Oregon and north to Alaska, Northwest coast peoples mark elaborate ceremonial life, social rank, and prestige through their objects and art.

This exhibition explores Northwest Coast art through over 60 objects made by known and unknown artists, representing traditional and modern forms of cultural expression. From model totem poles and bentwood boxes, to spoons, prints, and silver bracelets, these objects were created for different purposes––utilitarian, decorative, and ceremonial. What all of them share in common is the desire to preserve and perpetuate Northwest Coast cultural heritage and community.

Based on a community-wide vote, Knox County Public Library is hosting the 14th year of Movies on Market Square presented by Knoxville TVA Employee Credit Union. The series aims to highlight the Library’s vast collection of movies and music with more than 22,000 DVDs representing over 15,000 titles. The Sights and Sounds Department at Lawson McGhee Library has one of the broadest physical collections of film and music of any public library in the Southeast. The Library also recently announced a new streaming film service named Kanopy making more than 15,000 titles available for streaming to library card holders.

The Farragut Museum invites the community to visit our new special exhibit, The Vintage Kitchen. This exhibit will open on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, and will be on display through Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 (closed Dec. 24 and 25). This special exhibit will feature items from the Museum's collection of artifacts as well as items belonging to Museum Committee members.

The exhibit showcases a variety of antique, everyday kitchen items including plates, platters, waffle makers and more. A featured item is an antique stove that was previously housed in the Campbell Station Inn. Early metal stoves were used for laundry, heating, and cooking. Don't miss this opportunity to see these fascinating vintage kitchen items!

The Farragut Museum is committed to preserving the heritage of its East Tennessee community and features a remarkable collection of artifacts from the area, including an extensive collection of the personal belongings of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, first Admiral of the U.S Navy and hero of the Civil War.

Housed in Farragut Town Hall located at 11408 Municipal Center Drive, the museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers free admission. Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts invites you to attend our latest exhibit entitled Of the Earth: Selections from Arrowmont’s Permanent Collection.” The exhibit opens in the Sandra J. Blain Gallery September 1 and will run through December 9. Admission is free.

Works included in Of the Earth reflect a range of themes including nature, human emotion and the passage of time. Some of the pieces display overcoming struggle while others focus on hope. The earth tones and scorched surfaces found in many of the wood and ceramic pieces tie the show together. Arrowmont’s permanent collection is made up of pieces that were made by current and past artists-in-residence, instructors, national and international artists - all of the pieces and their creators have ties to Arrowmont and are part of the school’s history. This is the second large-scale curated exhibition utilizing works from Arrowmont’s permanent collection that Kelly Hider, Arrowmont’s Gallery Manager, has created, the first being Pieces of the Whole, in 2015.

The permanent collection includes nearly 1,000 works in a variety of arts and crafts media, including fiber, ceramics, wood, metals, and mixed media work. Made by the hands of current and past Arrowmont instructors, individuals from the settlement school’s days, and past artists-in- residence, the works represent the arts and craft school’s history, present, and future. “Arrowmont’s permanent collection encompasses such a diverse range of work,” Hider said. “It’s an impressive collection.”

The Sandra J. Blain Gallery is located at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, 556 Parkway in Gatlinburg, and is open Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. It is closed on Sunday. The gallery serves as an educational resource, enabling students and visitors to learn about various media and techniques.
