Ottawa Valley Fiddle Music
Born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario, April grew up in an area with a rich, distinctive musical and stepdancing tradition shaped by the diverse roots of the immigrants drawn to the region’s lumber camps. A performer since early childhood, she launched her professional career by winning the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championship and Canadian Open Fiddle Championship. She has since applied her formidable technique to encompass a wide range of styles. Her albums include Verchuosity (2001), From Where I Stand (2003) and Take me Back (2005) all on Rounder. April was featured at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

East Tennessee PBS: Internet Genealogy Class

Dr. George Schweitzer, a nationally known genealogy lecturer and author, will teach a class on Internet Genealogy. This member-only class will help you navigate the Internet to find the most common and efficient resources for genealogy research, show you how to use this resource effectively, as well as provide you with tips on researching your family heritage. This class is limited to 25 people and will be held at the East Tennessee Historical Society, Knoxville. 10th annual Neighborhood Bike Ride

Please join us for this special celebration ride. Not only is the ride turning 10 this year, but Knoxville just got named a Bicycle Friendly Community!

Please note we are starting from a different location due to many events downtown that morning. We'll tour Old North, Parkridge, the Old City and Mechanicsville. Free parking is available at the Knox Central building, 1000 N. Central, corner of Central and Baxter.

UT Downtown Gallery: Everything Shines

The UT Downtown Gallery is proud to present the second in a series of fall exhibitions. Featured will be the art of a current member of the UT School of Art faculty and a former participant in the Visiting Artist in Residence program.
This month we are featuring, recent paintings by UT Professor of painting Marcia Goldenstein who joined the faculty in 1976, and New York artist Julia Jacquette, who taught at UT during the falll semester, 1995. Julia Jacquette will give a lecture, sponsored by UT School of Art's VASDCO committee, September 30, 2010 at 7:00pm in the Art & Architecture Building, Room 109.
