A choral concert featuring the Knoxville Choral Society and solo performances by the three winners of the Young Classical Musicians Competition. The Chorus will perform several pieces from the American folk tradition and close with W. A. Mozart's "Coronation March".

Old-Time Fiddle
One of the most influential fiddlers of the current old-time music revival, Bruce Molsky is also a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer. Soon Be Time is Bruce’s newest solo recording and features his unique approach to traditional music. His other recordings have become staples for music lovers of every genre. Among his six solo recordings, Contented Must Be was released in April 2004. Poor Man’s Troubles won a 2001 “Indie” award for Best Traditional Folk Recording.

The Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble will hold open auditions for new members of the Ensemble at Dancers Studio, 4216 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville. Any Tennessee resident between 8-14 years of age is eligible to compete at this very basic audition. Each participant needs to prepare an original one-minute dance composition without music demonstrating modern dance and ballet techniques. The TCDE, a professional, performing modern dance company for children, is now celebrating its 30th anniversary. The group currently performs nationally. The 2011 Knox County Elementary Art Show will be held at the Phoenix Building March through April 25th.

A local student from Bearden High School won the design contest and will be receiving a free trip to New York courtesy of Sargent Art. The art was made into a flag that will be displayed in Washington representing Tennessee in the Flags Across America YAM Ceremony.

Historic Preservation Influences Artist’s Latest Work.

Beth Meadows is an artist who lives and works in Knoxville, TN. Her main medium is, but not limited to, acrylic on canvas. The pieces she has made for Rala are influenced by her position as the architectural salvage coordinator for the non-profit Knox Heritage. Beth re-uses old building materials in her work to promote the importance of historic preservation, and donates a portion of the proceeds of work sold to Knox Heritage. Her subject matter is inspired mostly by life in East Tennessee and music.

Joel Carrerio will give a Gallery Talk March 4, at 7pm in the Downtown Gallery.

Joel Carreiro’s work organizes and recomposes small squares of imagery borrowed from Renaissance paintings, European drawings and Medieval manuscripts and transforms them into large works on wood panels that create a new visual language entirely different from its original intent.
