Räla’s featured artist: Mike C. Berry

Mike C. Berry will exhibit his original work during the month of April at the Räla store located at 323 Union Ave, next to Market Square in downtown Knoxville. His work consists of colorful cityscapes with bending and twisting perspectives, often featuring local Knoxville city streets and landmarks. Mike’s work has been featured on Pilot billboards, and he has received commissions from the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Blaine Construction, and the University of Tennessee. Along with his original work, he will also have giclee prints and greeting cards.
Räla is a shop of regional and local artisan wares. Part shop, part gallery: a "shoppery"! We specialize in creative gifts for creative people. Paintings, ceramics, textiles, candles, books, cards and prints are a few of the items we carry at Räla. Merchandise is constantly changing. A new artist is featured at every First Friday event.

Bijou Theatre: Hot Trio LIVE!

Hot Trio LIVE! is a full-length high-definition filmed concert featuring musicians Tall Paul, Andy Wood, and Melanie Howe, known as The Djembabe. A special pre-movie concert will start at 7:00 p.m. featuring the Hot Trio. More importantly, students from The Joy of Music School will be accompanying the Trio on stage to kick off the evening. Nashville's Paul is legendary from college campuses to the beaches of Key West. This singer-songwriter, who opens for Jimmy Buffett with his band Ramajay Intercoastal from time to time has a vast musical background that he puts on display every show he performs. Founding member of the rock group, Down From Up, Andy Wood started his career playing bluegrass. He was runner-up in the World Championship Mandolin Contest. Wood transitioned to electric guitar and has wowed fans since. Wood was crowned Guitarmagedon champion at the age of 22. Melanie Howe is the "beat" to this trio as she brings attitude and expression to every song. Howe has been playing some type of instrument since she was nine years-old. She plays with several musicians as they look for more accompaniment. The Joy of Music School is a nonprofit organization providing free music lessons for children who cannot afford them. All teachers are volunteers. The School also provides instruments, music and supplies at no cost to students. Tickets are $10.

Dogwood Arts Festival: Nexus 2012

Dogwood Arts Festival’s newest exhibition, NEXUS, is an indoor collection of contemporary sculptures by regional and national artists. Noted performance sculptor and curator, Allen Peterson, presently at SCAD-Atlanta, is the Juror for NEXUS 2012! The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on April 6 at the U.T. Downtown Gallery, 106 South Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902.

University of Tennessee Downtown Gallery: Nexus 2012

As one of the Dogwood Arts Festival’s feature exhibits, NEXUS, showcases national and international artists working in contemporary sculpture and 3-D media. Indoor sculptures comprising all styles and genres from emerging and established artists will be selected by internationally recognized juror, Allen Peterson, for exhibition at the University of Tennessee's Downtown Gallery. This year, the chair of the NEXUS exhibition committee is Brian R. Jobe.

Town of Farragut: Kiwanis K Kids Arbor Day Art Show

he Town of Farragut presents the Farragut Intermediate School (FIS) Kiwanis K Kids Arbor Day Art Show from Monday, April 2 to Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Farragut Town Hall. The art show will be on display during regular Town Hall hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Held in anticipation of the April 27 National Arbor Day, this art show is a poster contest with the theme "Our Treeless Future." A public reception will be held on Thursday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, followed by the announcement of the Best of Show award at the 7 p.m. Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. Certificates will also be awarded for first, second and third place for each grade level.

Fountain City Art Guild: Spring Show and Sale

Spring at the Fountain City Art Center kicks off with a reception open to the public, Friday, March 30, 6:30 – 8:00 PM. The reception marks the beginning of the Annual Fountain City Art Guild Spring Show and Sale. The show will be judged by Harriet Howell. Awards will be given out at 7:00 PM.
This show will be on exhibit through April 27, as always no admission fee for the viewing public. Also on exhibit through April 27, artwork by students from the Halls area!

The Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture: MFA Thesis Exhibition

UT Gallery of Art and Architecture presents the MFA thesis exhibitions of Eleanor Aldrich, Leslie Grossman and Chadwick Williams from March 30 - April 6, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Sunday April 1, 2012, 3pm-6pm.
In partial fulfillment of their graduation requirements, students pursuing the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree are required to mount a solo exhibition of work, and to defend their work during an oral examination in front of a faculty committee. Due to the number of graduate students enrolled in the UT Department of Art, these exhibitions generally take the form of small groups of students presenting concurrent solo exhibitions in the gallery space.
