(All Ages) Have you met all the animals that call the Ijams Visitor Center home? If not, be sure to stop by every Saturday for a chance to get nose-to-beak with some of our resident furred and feathered ambassadors. This program is FREE, but donations to support animal care are welcome.

3:00 pm Animal Presentation: Red-tailed Hawk on the Plaza
(All Ages) You may have seen Tiger, our Red-tailed Hawk in her cage by the parking lot, but have you had a chance to see her up close? Join Ijams' resident hawk whisperer, Stephen Lyn Bales, as he brings her out to meet the public. This program is FREE, but donations to support animal care are welcome.

6:00 pm Terror in the Woods
(Ages 12 and up) Ijams Nature Center, Knoxville Horror Film Fest and Frightworks are teaming up to turn the forest at Ijams into a place so terrifying that even Jason Voorhees would think twice about entering. We'll present the classic slasher comedy, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil as well as the cult classic Cabin in the Woods. If you're feeling brave, Frightworks will host the most horrifying haunted trail Knoxville has ever witnessed, and Ijams staff will be providing lots of opportunities for you to learn about the more gruesome side of nature. The fun will continue with ghoulish face painting and fortune-telling stations. Food, beer, and vendors will complete the evening! The fee for this event is $10 per person.

8:00 pm Hunting the Haunted
(Ages 12 and up) What kind of Terror in the Woods are you looking for? How about a ghost hunt at the Ijams Quarries? Like many quarries, ours has a dark and checkered past. We'll use tools of the trade to investigate this allegedly haunted location. If you're looking to get "spooked," be sure to sign up for the only Knoxville ghost hunt that investigates a historic quarry! The fee is $20 per person and you will get to use a variety of ghost hunting equipment, such as voice recorders, EMF detectors, laser grids, and more! Rockin' the Docks is an all day festival that takes place each year on Fort Loudon Lake. Each summer, thousands of people gather at Lenoir City park to enjoy live bands, food, fireworks, rock climbing wall and much more. This year we have some of our best performers ever. Food vendors will be providing a wide variety of your favorites so there is no need to bring any food. They will also provide plenty of beverages to drink. The children's play area will also be back for the kids to enjoy. We do ask that you leave pets at home and as always, alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

On First Friday July 5th., “2 Many Pixels” photo gallery is proud to present a collection of photographs by artist and 6 times Ilford Prize winner JACQUES GAUTREAU.

This exhibit explores the full extent of the photographic language, composition, colors, textures, shadows and offers a voyage through the most subtle and genuine emotions.
The photographs are all for sale, gallery archival prints, signed and numbered by the artists.

The gallery at the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC) will feature art in the theme of Celebrating Freedom. The public is invited to the PCAC gallery to view original artwork in the form of oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, colored pencil, photography, mixed media, pottery, sculpture, and jewelry, created by Art Guild members.

In addition to viewing this fine art work, visitors also learn about the many art classes available during the month, and depending on the day and time, may view a class in session, or watch the open painting, beading, or figure drawing sessions that take place in the studio. The gallery is also the perfect place to shop for a reasonably priced gift of art.

The PCAC is open Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Located at 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine), the gallery is handicapped accessible. The University of Tennessee Downtown Gallery is excited to present Print Resonance, a portfolio of 50 prints by students and faculty members from five international universities. This portfolio has been exhibited at the other schools and is now being displayed for the first time in the United States here at the Downtown Gallery.
Fifty graduate students and faculty members at five universities: the University of Alberta, Canada; the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium; Silpakorn University, Thailand and Musashino Art University, Tokyo, Japan created prints specifically for this project. The participating artists made their prints on the same size paper, allowing the viewer to focus on the image, rather than the scale of the work. The audience is encouraged to consider the artistic expression from each university and to find commonality across geographic and cultural borders, as the printmakers share ideas about their own interests, lives, and values.

The works were created using various print techniques, which include inkjet, etching, drypoint, chine-colle, lithography, woodcut, intaglio and blind printing. This portfolio is a limited edition of 10 copies, two for each of the five universities, with the goal of further development of printmaking education around the globe.

Print Resonance will be on display at the UT Downtown Gallery from July 5 -27, 2013.

The opening reception is on July 5 from 5:00- 9:00pm. The artists representing the University of Tennessee in this exhibition will be present.

Recent works by jeweler Jennifer Lindsay and photographer Dennis Sabo will be featured during the month of July at the Art Market Gallery in downtown Knoxville.

Jennifer Lindsay, who resides in Knoxville, fashions one-of-a-kind jewelry using various beading techniques that employ imported seed pearls and semi-precious stones, as well as Swarovsky crystals for dazzling accents. “I get my inspiration from everywhere – architecture, gardens, historical customs,” she says. Ms Lindsay’s creative expression and a penchant for intricate construction are the result of a background blend that ranges from membership in the Embroiderers’ Guild of America to her career as a mechanical engineer at Alcoa.

Dennis Sabo, a Loudon resident, is an internationally honored photographer specializing in contemporary abstract, landscape, and seascape photography. His award-winning work has appeared in various publications, television, the Internet and institutions, among them NOVA, PBS, Shedd Aquarium-Chicago, Hilton Hotels and Blue Planet. A frequent lecturer and workshop instructor, Sabo has refined the fine-art photograph into an interpretive collage of color and texture. The title for this exhibition is “Leafing Impressions,” an expressionistic view of the grandeur of forests and trees.

A First Friday opening reception for the exhibits is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 5, with complimentary refreshments and jazz, soul, world and fusion music by Marquis McGee on saxophone. Many member artists will be on hand to meet and mingle with visitors.

Bliss Home is pleased to present Knoxville artist, Beth Meadows, for July's First Friday. Bliss Home, located at 29 Market Square, will host an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6pm to 9pm. Complimentary Steamboat Sandwiches will be provided and Beth's art will be featured the whole month of July. Beth Meadows graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BFA in Studio Art in 2007. She has lived and worked in Knoxville since then and currently manages The Salvage Room for the non-profit Knox Heritage, receiving and selling historic building materials. She is also the Director, as well as an artist, at 17th Street Studios, a work space for thirteen artists near downtown Knoxville. Beth's July exhibit will feature work inspired by a subscription to Vogue her sister gave her a few summers ago. Most pieces began by tearing out pages from these magazines- photographs of scenes, models, and clothing.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present a new exhibition entitled “East Meets West” featuring ceramics, Chinese watercolor paintings and woodblock prints by Oak Ridge artist Eun-Sook Kim. “Although my primary medium is ceramics, I consider myself a painter first,” says Eun-Sook Kim. “Through brushwork, I feel in harmony with nature. Like a speck in the landscape of a classical Chinese painting, I am infinitely small, yet essential in nature. Interweaving different strands from different cultures and countries, my art reflects the multicolored pattern of my life.”

Eun-Sook Kim received her B.A. in English literature from Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, Korea in the early 1960s. She was accepted into a graduate program at the University of Tennessee, and upon moving to Knoxville, she married and then stayed home with her children until they finished college. At that point, she resumed her graduate studies and received an M.F.A. in ceramics from UT in the 1990s. Her work has been featured in various juried shows throughout the U.S. and in Japan and Korea, and she has held solo exhibitions locally in Ewing Gallery, The Art Market Gallery, Oak Ridge Art Center, and the American Museum of Science and Energy. She founded and directed both the Corner Gallery and the Upstairs Gallery in Oak Ridge for many years. Currently, Kim is a member of the National Council for Educators of Ceramic Art, the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists (TACA), Foothills Craft Guild and the Art Market Gallery. She has extensive experience leading workshops, lectures, and teaching. Her work has appeared in various Ceramics magazines published globally. The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present the first annual Knoxville Photo 2013, a new exhibition featuring selected works from 36 artists throughout the Southeast region. Knoxville Photo was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their highest quality work. The exhibition encompasses photographs depicting all subjects and genres, including streetscapes, cityscapes, landscapes, environmental portraiture, abstracts, and more, and will be displayed in the Emporium Center from July 5-26, 2013. A public reception will take place on Friday, July 5, from 5:00-9:00 PM with an awards ceremony at 6:00 PM in which $750 in cash awards will be announced.

“Fine Arts Blount” Member Art Exhibit, coordinated by Cindy McDannel on the Art Wall at the Bookmark Café, Art Panels at the Reading Rotunda, two square pedestal cases and two vertical display cases in the Entry Rotunda, through July.

Free and open to the public, the program is at the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.

A native of Blount county, Charles E. Kirkland's Music & Dance series includes paintings, wall sculptures and standing sculpture. Kirkland feels that his art reveals his inner being and uses bold and subtle strokes and colors to get the feel he strives for in his work. This abstract series is unique due to the combination of underpinnings being used, as well as the color and patterns. There is a boldness and energy to the work.
