Clayton Center for the Arts: Cashore Marionettes
Category: Theatre
The Lambert Recital Hall Performance Series
At the age of 11, Joseph Cashore created his first marionette from clothespins, wood, string and a tin can. It was while playing with this puppet that he was startled by the sudden but momentary sensation that the puppet was alive. This illusion had nothing to do with the appearance of the marionette and everything to do with the quality of the movement.
After graduation from college, Mr. Cashore made his second marionette. He quickly discovered that in order to have the fluid motion he sought, he would have to create his own control designs. For the next nineteen years, Mr. Cashore experimented with the construction of the marionettes and devised totally new control mechanisms.

How much: Free
Instructional Workshop: Wednesday, April 8 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Knoxville Museum of Art
The Chalk Walk comes back in its seventh year and remains one of the fan favorites among our visitors in April! The street painting festival, whose origination as a featured event of Dogwood Arts, drew inspiration from a 16th century Italian happening, turns Knoxville’s downtown sidewalks into a seemingly infinite canvas for the region’s most talented professional and student artists. Dogwood Arts brings this event to Knoxville once again to continue to educate visitors and artists, alike, of this lost art in hopes of keeping it alive for future generations. Bring the family and get some ideas for your child’s next driveway masterpiece – or your own!
