Building on the success of last year’s Community Church Christmas, The Choirs and ringers of the Community Church once again join with members of the Knoxville Symphony to present a holiday concert of carols, orchestral works, and sing-alongs to inspire and delight. This area’s largest Christmas celebration is offered free to the community and surrounding areas.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Second Sunday Docent Tours & Family Fun

Each Second Sunday of the month at 2pm, docents offer free guided tours of Higher Ground, Currents, and traveling exhibitions to the public. In order to reach a broader audience the KMA offers Spanish speaking tours once a month at 3pm.

Additionally, the KMA will host FREE drop-in art activities for families. A local artist will be on-site to lead hands-on art activities between 1pm and 4pm on the second Sunday of each month.

Candlelight Tour at Ramsey House

Step back in time to a celebration of Christmas in ages past. Historic Ramsey House will hold its Annual Candlelight Tour on Sunday, December 13th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy holiday treats, Christmas carols, and tours of the beautifully decorated, candlit historic home. We are sure that Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting with gifts for the little ones as well. Admission is free, but donations are much appreciated.

Home Federal Bank Presents ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

In celebration of the season, Home Federal Bank invites the public to enjoy its Christmas gift to the community – two free screenings of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the historic Tennessee Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 13.

The film will be shown at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., and doors will open one hour prior to each screening. The event is free, and no ticket is required. Seating is limited to the theater’s capacity. Convenient, free parking is available in the State Street garage, 520 State Street.
As a bonus, moviegoers will may also pick up $2 discount coupons for the City of Knoxville’s Holidays on Ice open-air skating rink on Market Square, also sponsored by the bank.
Released in 1946 and starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a bittersweet comedy/drama about George Bailey, a compassionate but debt-ridden manager of a bank in typical small-town America, and the angel that helps him realize his importance in the world. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and ranks No. 1 on the American Film Institute’s “100 Most Inspiring Films of All Time” list.

Meet the Author for a Public Reading & Signing! A writer sits at her desk, trying to write, when she hears a noise from down the hall. Is it the nightmare she imagines, or an opportunity to experience God's grace in the palm of her hand? "Thump" is a true-life testimony of the miracles that surround us each day. Lisa Soland is a renowned playwright, with plays Waiting, Cabo San Lucas, Truth Be Told, The Name Game, and The Man in the Gray Suit & Other Plays, all published internationally by Samuel French Inc. With over 40 international publications in all, her work can also be found in “best of” anthologies published by French, Smith & Kraus, Applause Books and Dramatic Publishing. Her book The Writer’s Motivation has inspired countless writers to fill the blank page. Ms. Soland has produced and/or directed over 80 theatrical productions and play readings, 55 of which have been original, and founded The All Original Playwright Workshop where she works as Artistic Director and teacher, producing workshops throughout the United States and online. She had the privilege of returning to her alma mater, Florida State University, to head up the MFA playwriting program, and now enjoys teaching in the drama departments at both Maryville College and Pellissippi State in Tennessee.

Nativity Pageant

The Nativity Pageant, a professionally directed pantomime drama, combines a cast of over 90, moving narration, realistic sets, authentic costumes, and live animals to create a beautiful and powerful presentation of the Christmas story. Music is provided by a 200 voice choir, accompanied by a 20-member orchestra. The one-hour performance starts in darkness. Please be sure to arrive early to avoid having to find seats in the dark. Children are welcome at the family-friendly performance.

Mabry-Hazen House: Christmas Tours & Book Signing

Mabry-Hazen House invites you to join us for our Annual Christmas Tours. Rooms will be decorated by museum staff and volunteers. Jane Van Ryan, author of The Seduction of Miss Evelyn Hazen, will be available to sign copies of a newly released second edition of her book. The new edition, artfully produced by Robin Easter Design, features a history of the Mabry-Hazen family, photographs, and a family tree.

Christmas Tours are scheduled for Saturday, December 12th from 5-8pm and Sunday, December 13th from 2-5pm. The event is free of charge and light refreshments will be served. Donations are encouraged.

Built in 1858, The Mabry-Hazen House is strategically located on the highest hill east of downtown Knoxville with spacious views in all directions. The home was occupied and defended by both armies during the Civil War. It housed three generations of the same family for 130 years; the museum showcases one of the largest original family collections in America. Your attendance and donations will help support the museum's mission to preserve and educate the public about an important part of East Tennessee history.

The Knoxville Gay Men's Chorus: Christmas Comes Anew

The Knoxville Gay Men's Chorus is pleased to announce that they will be presenting their celebration of the holidays with the “Christmas Comes Anew” concert. The KGMC has planned a music fest featuring both traditional carols and secular holiday themes. The concert will be held at the Bijou Theater on December 12, 8 PM and December 13, 2 PM.

The Knoxville Gay Men's Chorus was begun in 2012 and has grown from fifteen members to more than fifty in the last three years. Several new members have been welcomed this season. Each member of the group spends time in weekly rehearsals, as well as dedicating personal time to learning and memorizing a full evening of music to share. The group is organized as a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Christmas concert this year will be the first performance under the direction of the new artistic director, Dr. Alan Stevens. The chorus will also feature two smaller ensembles, “Choral Fixation” and “Latest Edition”. Highlights for the performance include arrangements of "O Come, All Ye Faithful", "The First Noel" and "Still, Still, Still". The second act includes "Mele Kalikimaka", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Jingle Bells”. Within the scope of the concert are traditional Christmas Carols, celebrations of warmth and winter and light-hearted numbers to warm the hearts and spirit of the audience.

The cost for the concert is $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Tiger Lily Theatre: Henrik Ibsen’s "A Doll's House"

Tiger Lily Theatre Company is pleased to present Henrik Ibsen’s timeless play “A Doll’s House.” Reimagined against a post-depression American backdrop, this this production of Ibsen’s most famous play highlights the timelessness of Nora’s struggle against the confines of societal norms and a marriage that is not what it seems. Nora and Torvald Helmer believe they are happily married and on the brink of a blissful new phase of life: Torvald has been promoted to bank manager and their money worries are over. But Nora has a secret debt, incurred with good intentions and a forged signature, and with her husband's new power comes the threat of blackmail.

Featuring a cast of local actors, this production will take place at Broadway Academy of Performing Arts, 706 N. Broadway St, for one weekend only. Parking is available at the rear of Broadway Academy on Lamar St.

Tiger Lily Theatre is dedicated to furthering opportunities for women in the Knoxville arts community. Through the performance of both classical and contemporary works, we provide performance, directing, writing and design opportunities while bringing impassioned and engaging theatre to our audience. Knoxville’s first women’s theatre, Tiger Lily Theatre was recently selected to represent the state of Tennessee in the 2016 Southeastern Theatre Conference Community Theatre Festival Competition. Tiger Lily currently produces two performances per season, including the series of short, original works in the spring. We consider it our duty to provide a consistent venue for emerging playwrights, particularly those in the Knoxville area.
