Tennessee Theatre: Chicago
Category: Dance, movement, Music and Theatre
Part of the 2016-2017 Broadway at the Tennessee Theatre season!
CHICAGO, which opened to rave reviews on November 14, 1996, is now in its 20th year on Broadway and is one of the longest running American musicals, showing no sign of ever slowing down! Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

The Mill & Mine: St. Paul and the Broken Bones
Category: Music
Following last week's release of their jaw-dropping new album St. Paul and the Broken Bones just announced their upcoming tour including a stop in Knoxville! Sea Of Noise lifts this Alabama eight-piece from its spot as the nation's best young party band into headier and more exciting territory, where insights matter more than mere imitation. If its 2014 debut album Half The City proved that the group had the chops to refresh bar-band revivalism, this new release stands firmly in the present while exploring jazz-funk, orchestral pop and country-soul.

Knoxville Writers Guild: Point of View Workshop
Category: Classes, workshops and Literature, spoken word, writing
Pamela Schoenewaldt, novelist, short story writer, and experienced teacher, will lead a writing workshop on point of view Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. until noon, at Central United Methodist Church, 201 East Third Avenue. Registration required to attend: http://www.knoxvillewritersguild.org/events/story-your-point-view
She will help you find, define, and empower the all-important point of view that makes (or breaks) your story. This workshop is valuable for writers at all stages, in genres as diverse as poetry, long and short fiction, and memoir. The workshop will look at how point of view drives character, plot and setting. You will discuss classic options: first, second, and many variations of third person, outlining strengths and challenges for each. A few short, fun exercises let you discover how the “right” point of view can dramatically unstick problem pieces and reveal new depth and possibilities in your work.
Pamela Schoenewaldt’s prize winning short stories have been published internationally. Her first three novels were with HarperCollins, including a USAToday Bestseller. She has taught fiction writing for many years and has given many popular KWG workshops. Please bring something to write with and on, some story ideas if you have them (not required), and be ready to amaze yourself. Questions? Contact Pamela Schoenewaldt at p.schoene@comcast.net
