Fountain City Art Center: Impressions of Color by Aleex Conner

An exhibition of about 40 new oil painting by Aleex Conner, a local artist who paints in the style of the 19th Century French Impressionists. Aleex Conner has painted for over 30 years and has traveled to Europe many times. On location in France, she has studied with some of today's best instructors in the Impressionists' style. In the south of France, the light is extraordinary for plein air oil painters. She has frequently painted in the very same areas where Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, and other Impressionists painted in the latter part of the 19th century and into the early 20th Century.

Reception held Saturday, March 4, 4:00-6:00 PM, Fountain City Art Center, 213 Hotel Avenue. 10% of the proceeds will be donated by the artist to the Fountain City Art Center. Everyone 21 and above is welcome to attend. No entry fees will be charged.

Tennessee Stage Company: Shakespeare On The Square Auditions

The Tennessee Stage Company will hold auditions for the 2017 Shakespeare On The Square season on Saturday, March 4, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm and Sunday. March 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Emporium Building, 100 S. Gay Street.

Auditionees are requested to prepare two contrasting monologues, at least one classical, of no more than one minute each. Please bring two copies of a resume and standard theatrical headshot. All auditions are by appointment only. For appointments please contact the Tennessee Stage Company by calling 546-4280 or by e-mail at tennesseestage@comcast.net.

The two shows to be performed this summer are The Two Gentlemen Of Verona and The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged). They will run from July 13 – August 13. The Central Collective: Good Sport Night

Cost: $28. Activity: Wouldn't you like to know? CALLING ALL GOOD SPORTS! Here's the deal. You purchase a ticket to a mystery event. Show up to The Central Collective at the specified date and time, and be ready for anything. Past events have included: a live studio game show, an egg drop competition, a garden party in a castle, a walking tour of North Knoxville, live music with swing dance lessons, an underground arcade, an apocalypse booth camp, and an actual wedding were attendees served as the bridal party, toast-makers and wedding guests. These are events for folks who are curious, adventurous, and like trying new things & meeting new people.

Worried that you won't be able to participate because of dietary restrictions, physical ability or other preferences? We'll do our best to give you the information you need to decide if this month's Good Sport Night is right for you. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to give us a shout! Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum: Nature Play Work Day

Join us in our Outdoor Explorer Classroom for a volunteer workday! We need your help from 8am – 12pm Saturday, March 4 to create a Nature Play Area for our young visitors. Volunteers are needed to spread mulch, place stumps, move sand, cut bamboo, and other important tasks.

Bring your water bottle and gardening gloves if you prefer to use your own, and dress comfortably for working outside in the gardens. We recommend that volunteers wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.

Volunteers may use our entrance from 2649 Boyd’s Bridge Pike, or they may park at the Visitors Center at 2743 Wimpole Avenue and walk to the site.

Knoxville Writers' Guild: Beth Terrell-Hicks

Crime and mystery writer Beth Terrell-Hicks will lead a Knoxville Writers' Guild sponsored workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at Central United Methodist Church, 201 East Third Avenue. Register at http://www.knoxvillewritersguild.org/events/crime-fiction

This workshop is key for anyone with an interest in writing a mystery, thriller, novel or short stories in which crime figures in the plot. The workshop provides an overview of the steps to creating authentic, character-driven crime fiction. Combining lecture, Q&A, and individual exercises, the workshop will cover theme; character development; the anatomy of a crime; suspects, allies and antagonists; clues and red herrings; research; plot creation; and pacing.

Beth Terrell-Hicks, writing as Jaden Terrell, created the Jared McKean series, and is the executive director of the Killer Nashville Thriller, Mystery, and Crime Literature Conference. Beth is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Private Eye Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, and Sisters in Crime. She is a sought-after editor, writing coach and conference speaker.

R&M Tribute Entertainment: Elvis & Cash Tributes Show

Our special guest and Elvis Tribute Artist, Stewart Chapman will be performing the 50’s and ‘68 comeback. Ronnie Miller will be performing his tribute to the man in black, Johnny Cash. Ronnie Miller is originally from Knoxville, TN. He is a multi-award winning, country and gospel entertainer, singer, and performer with over 15 years of experience in the music business. Ronnie has won several local and national singing awards in Country and Gospel music. He performs tributes to Johnny Cash and Elvis. He was also inducted into the National Elvis Organization in 2011. Stewart Chapman is from Stanardsville, Virginia. He has been performing Elvis tributes for the past 4 years. Stewart recently won second place in a contest at the Lake George Elvis Festival. His tributes to Elvis consist of 50’s, ’68 comeback to ‘70’s era. Beginning in June 2017 he will be acting in a short film about Elvis Presley.

The show is scheduled on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 PM at Hudsplace Event Center located at 2110 E. Broadway, Maryville, TN. Reserve admission is $15 and general admission is $10. Tickets can be reserved in advance or purchased at the door at 6:30 PM. Ijams Nature Center: Sanctuary Series

Broadway Studios and Gallery: Peace Works!

The "Peace Works" event hosted by Broadway Studios And Gallery in collaboration with the Knoxville Art and Fine Craft Center. "Peace Works" was conceived by Broadway Studios and Gallery to question and celebrate peace in the world especially during the politically charged environment we face today. All perspectives are welcomed and celebrated in this unique one of a kind Knoxville event. At the centerpiece of the "Peace Works" event is an open call art competition exhibited in the Broadway Studios and Gallery arts space showcasing art based on the premise of what peace means visually. Local artists were encouraged to express their views of the state of peace in the world be it locally or globally or simply how they find peace on personally level.

There will be another exhibit by local abstract painter Dino Day Liddick located in the Knoxville Arts and a Fine Craft Center unrelated to the "Peace Works" theme.

Popular food truck cuisine by Oishii will be available for patrons for a nominal fee. Entertainment will consist of a drum circle and dancers associated with the Knoxville Art and Fine Center.... named Indigenous Vibes and African Dance by Alaba. All ages are welcome and beverages will be available.
