Here's the deal. You purchase a ticket to a mystery event. Show up to The Central Collective at the specified date and time, and be ready for anything. Past events have included: a live studio game show, an egg drop competition, a garden party in a castle, a walking tour of North Knoxville, live music with swing dance lessons, an underground arcade, a yacht trip, and a spy-themed escape game. These are events for folks who are curious, adventurous, and like trying new things & meeting new people.

Worried that you won't be able to participate because of dietary restrictions, physical ability or other preferences? We'll do our best to give you the information you need to decide if this month's Good Sport Night is right for you. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to give us a shout! If you show up and cannot participate for an unforeseen reason, we're happy to give you a credit for a future Good Sport Night. Unless otherwise noted, these events are not programmed for children.

On Saturday, August 5, 2017, the Mabry-Hazen House will cordially invite twenty guests into the historic home for an evening of eating, drinking, and learning. Partnering with Heartfire Culinary and Craft Accommodations, the Mabry-Hazen House will exhibit the tastes, ingredients, and culinary history of 1920s America. The dinner will immerse guests in the period as each course and beverage was inspired by culinary experiences typical of the 1920s.

Guests will dine in the historic dining room and parlor and enjoy a seven-course dinner prepared local chefs Amber Lloyd (former executive chef at The Orangery, RT Lodge, and Bistro by the Tracks) and Chris Cantrell of Heartfire Culinary as well as cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages mixed by mixologist Palmer Mason of Craft Accommodations. Before the dinner, Patrick Hollis of the Mabry-Hazen House will guide diners through the fascinating and nuanced culinary histories of the Hazens, Knoxvillians, and Americans during the "Roaring" Twenties.

T. Michael Branner – a Jazz Flautist and Knoxville native, paid his Jazz dues while living in Columbus, Ohio. A favorite and frequently performer on the Midwest Jazz scene, Michael has played on the stage or has been an opening act for Wes Anderson, Kenny G., Boney James, Jerome Jennings and other establish Jazz names. Recently returning to Knoxville, he has become a reoccurring performer on the outdoor festival circuit as well as at the Red Piano Lounge and at The Bistro at the Bijou Restaurant. His eclectic and very groove oriented style is a crowd pleaser with comparisons to Hubert Laws, James Moody and Herbie Mann, who are the flute enthusiastically admits are his Jazz influences.

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade presents its 8th Annual Judged and Juried Fine Arts Show. This exciting show will begin with an Awards Reception on Friday, August 4th, starting at 5:00 p.m.

In addition to wall art including pieces in photography, watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pen, ink, and pencil, artists proficient in clay, sculpture, jewelry, wood-working, and mixed-media will be displayed. This year’s Juror-Judge is Joseph S. Mella, director of the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery. With almost 30 years of experience working in art museums, Joseph Mella manages, curates, and oversees the operations of the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery and its collections within the College of Fine Arts and Science.

Broadway Studios and Gallery located at 1127 N Broadway, Knoxville will be hosting Dino Day Liddick and Brandy Slaybaugh in an art show being held Friday, August 4th through Saturday, August 26th.

The opening reception will be held on First Friday, August 4th from 5-9pm
Light refreshments will be served and parking is on premises.

Dino Day Liddick is a self-taught painter currently from Knoxville TN. Rather than pulling ideas together traditionally used to produce "art", he practices clearing his mind through the process of abstract painting resulting in an artistic product than can be shared. Dino's work looks like controlled chaos. The paint is placed in swirls and the explosions of color function, in part and as a whole, in a pleasing yet subtly challenging way. Extremely refreshing and enjoyable for the fan of "outsider-ish" abstract art.

The second artist is Brandy Slaybough. A lawyer by profession she describes: "I have no formal training as an artist- I have always just 'arted.' "

Brandy works primarily with ink and watercolor. Her work is geared toward pantheistic themes and divinity in small things inspired by mythology & magic, fairy tales, and gods. She questions what is part of this world, what is supernatural, and the blurring of the line between the two. Subject matter ranges from spirit animals to figures to insects to portraits done in a style that resembles pen and ink along with washes found in the journals of old masters such as Leonardo DaVinci.
Brady is also currently a candidate for Knoxville City Council District 6.

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to present "Reprocessed" - an exhibition of art by three Knoxville artists who use found imagery and materials to create their unique pieces. In recognition of the late Debbie Reynolds, FCP invites you two kick up your heels and sing and dance in the rain. The iconic film graces the stage with favorites including, "Good Morning," "You Are My Lucky Star," and "Singin' in the Rain."

This month's gallery exhibit features the work of Ijams' senior naturalist, Stephen Lyn Bales! A talented artist and designer who has been with Ijams for 19 years, Stephen Lyn also has written books on nature for UT Press including Natural Histories and Ghost Birds. His latest book, Ephemeral by Nature, will be available in the Ijams gift shop in September. All of the pen-and-ink works featured in the gallery were done in conjunction with one of his books, newspaper articles, River Rescue t-shirts or for interpretive signs at Ijams.

Recent works by photographer Ron Sullivan and potter Linda Sullivan will be on display. Ron Sullivan says about himself, "My photographic influences include photographer Jerry Uelsmann, whose work I first came across at Columbia College in Chicago. He is a master photographic composite artist whose surrealism developed in the darkroom before there was any such thing as digital manipulation. The objective of all of my images is the same as that for every painter, photographer, sculptor, poet, filmmaker: get the viewer to linger before the image, to wonder exactly what is being presented here. Is that a photograph, a watercolor, a print? In the current series titled Ports of Air, I am using composites of several images to correlate to Wallace Stevens’ poem, Anecdote of the Jar."

Linda Sullivan describes her process this way: " The process for creating crystalline work is challenging in that successful results require several steps to ensure that crystals form. Conditions must be just right – appropriate clay body, fluid glazes with specific chemical ingredients, correct thickness of glaze, and complex firing/cooling kiln cycle. As a result, the failure rate with this technique is greater than in my previous work. Still, experimenting with crystalline glazes has been a nice change of pace, and opening the kiln to see crystal formations on the pieces has been quite satisfying."

The Enamelist Society’s mission is to educate and encourage artists and collectors about the beauty of enameled art. Combining heat from a kiln or torch with colored glass, the enamelist engages in a mystical, magical, and transformational alchemy of turning sand into glass on metal. The result is a reflective, vibrant color expressed in each artist’s vision. Viewers are invited to gain inspiration from the exquisite craft and creativity showcased in the works in Alchemy4, the Enamelist Society’s 16th International Juried Exhibition and 12th Juried Student Exhibition. The Alchemy4 International and Student Exhibitions collectively showcase 150 exquisite jewelry, objects, and mixed media sculptures and installations made by 98 artists. Flying Anvil Theatre kicks off its first season in its new space in Rocky Hill with THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL, music and lyrics by David Nehls and book by Betsy Kelso. Critics have called the 2005 Off-Broadway smash “South Park meets Desperate Housewives.” A country-rock and blues musical about agoraphobia, adultery, '80s nostalgia, spray cheese, road kill, hysterical pregnancy, a broken electric chair, kleptomania, strippers, flan, and disco, the story centers around regular guy Norbert and his agoraphobic wife, Jeannie, whose marriage is threatened by Armadillo Acres' newcomer, the hot young stripper, Pippi. The trailer park also plays home to a Greek-chorus trio of women – Linoleum, Betty, and Pickles, each dysfunctional in her own right. When Pippi’s angry ex-boyfriend shows up, it looks like bad news for everyone, until a surprising secret leads to a happy ending, when the entire cast sings the rousing anthem, ”I Gotta Make Like a Nail (and Press On).”

Director Jayne Morgan says the show is a real audience pleaser. “We’ve heard from a number of people who have seen the show in other cities and can’t wait to see it again. The show is outrageous and funny and over the top – the perfect summer musical if you’re just looking for a something fun.” Terry Silver Alford will be musical directing and Dana Wham will choreograph. The cast of seasoned performers includes John Cherry, Tiffany Fenech, Mandi Lawson, Emily Helton, Chevy Anz, Curtis Bower and Wham.

Performances are Wed-Sat at 7:30 PM and Sun at 2 PM.
