At Thursday’s event, Mayor Indya Kincannon will speak and introduce Carmon, who will read the first Poetry in Motion piece to begin the month-long celebration of the written and spoken word.

On Mondays and Fridays in April, a variety of local poets will hold pop-up performances at transit stops.

Also, area residents should keep an eye out for Poetry in Motion billboards, featuring poems by Carmon and previous Poet Laureates R.B. Morris and Marilyn Kallet.

Photos and videos of performances will be shared on social media using the #PoetryInMotion hashtag.

Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

Since its indoctrination, the art department at Pellissippi State Community College has hosted an annual juried student exhibition. That work of art is then placed in a permanent collection at the college. For 2021, the exhibition will be held for the first time virtually.

Any PSCC student from a past or present studio art class in the last two years, are welcome to apply for the exhibition.

The jurors for the exhibition are Professor Jeff Lockett, Associate Professor Caroline Covington, Professor Herb Rieth, and Professor Jennifer Brickey.
