This sensation
Alighted
From the crunching bones of palms
And seeping out of fingertips
Coursing and pulsing
Toes spread
Hips sway
Trembling from a touch of atrophy
And gravity
Leaves splay out from the branch
Which bends and curves
An observational analysis of the surrounding world
Time and erosion hold some truth
Time and erosion also obscure it
They are the ancient myth-makers
This is a reflection
It has to do with seeing
And sensing
Remembering and misremembering
Trial and error
Putting disjointed and frayed ends together
Hoping something sparks
There is a placing and sorting occurring
A type of piecing and restoring
Something old to something new
Or something borrowed
Something
Maybe not so blue
But familiar
With its color
Vaguely reminiscent of a plant in the backyard
An herb added to the bread
There’s a sprint
And a type of dizziness that accompanies it
And right before passing out and throwing up
A type of magic happens then
It’s a making and not making,
Remaking and recreating and tearing down,
And passing down and passing over
It’s learning a language but not all of the way
Creating a new tongue from made-up words
Post-post-midrashim
A type of post postscript

Fragmentation and post-apocalyptic realities motivate their sustainable practice. Investigating what is torn, broken and dead, and then reshaping these materials is their alchemical method for transfiguration and a way to gather all of time together.
These are manifestations of a believed and beloved reality through an exploration of the fascia between relationships, magic, joy and time. A visual praxis is their comprehension of what is remembered, forgotten and misremembered. These transformative objects in space connect moments and individuals through their storytelling.
Masks are required.

"The Long Road to You", is the latest creation of Nashville couple and duo Kelly&Ellis. It is an up-close and personal musical event of seamlessly interwoven stories and songs from the lives of Multi-Award Winning Artists Casey Kelly and Leslie Ellis. Their compelling story is rooted in Rock-n-Roll, Broadway, and Hit Songwriting and culminates in a Love Story that leaves the listener charmed. They create a Multi-Genre Experience by drawing from their past and present experiences and combining original songs with fresh takes on old favorites. Through their touching, and sometimes hysterically humorous stories, the audience can catch a glimpse of the ups and downs of life in the music business and how the unexpected things in life lead you right to where you belong. From the very first chord, Kelly&Ellis welcome the audience to travel their life’s journey, in an Intimate “Listening Room” Environment - surrounded by candle-lit tables - that makes a large room feel like an Acoustic Coffee House. Their unique story is rooted in Rock-n-Roll, Broadway and songwriting and culminates in a Love Story that leaves the listener charmed.

Tri-Star Arts: Reception for Mondegreen by Pete Hoffecker Mejía
Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event
Tri-Star Arts announces the next exhibition at their gallery in the historic Candoro Marble Building. A solo show, Mondegreen, features new work by artist Pete Hoffecker Mejía (Salem, Oregon).
Public receptions will be held on Friday, July 16 from 5:00- 8:00 pm (artist in attendance) and Friday, September 3 from 5:00- 8:00 pm. An in-person artist talk will be held on Friday, July 16 at 3:30 pm.
Pete Hoffecker Mejía states: “This work is engaged with the negotiation of multiform cultural identities. I am expressly concerned with exploring the intersection of contrasting cultural information, hierarchies of representation, and conflation in the expression of otherness.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, of indigenous ancestry, adopted by a multiracial family, and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, I have created a studio practice that serves as a space for mediation of the resulting geographic and cultural estrangement. Cut and reassembled serape blankets, mochila pattern, molas, and other fragments of a whole speak to cultural and geographic discontinuity. Interrogating the themes of European geometric abstraction and Indigenous art forms allows me to create a sculptural narrative of contemporary Latin-American and Indigenous cultural hybridity, with acknowledgment of the postcolonial landscape.
High art and low, the historical and the ahistorical, the found and the fabricated, caricature and the sincere, all collide and collude. In this way, I explore the blurred points of contact resulting from estrangement, while touching on the obstacles in mediating self through distorted representations of the other in mass culture.”
This exhibition will be open to the public, alongside iconic spaces within the Candoro Marble Building, regularly from Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. Social distancing is encouraged.

UT School of Art: Mapping Home / Collecting Truths: Works by Indigenous and International Artists
Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Free event and History, heritage
The University of Tennessee School of Art is hosting Navajo artist and University of Colorado Professor, Melanie Yazzie, September 20– 24, for a series of activities on campus.
Mapping Home / Collecting Truths: Works by Indigenous and International Artists, an exhibition organized by Yazzie with prints by 35 indigenous and international artists, addressing ideas of homeland and its intersection with the environment, climate, or other influences. https://www.colorado.edu/libraries/2018/10/08/mapping-home-collecting-truths-works-indigenous-and-international-artists
About her work Yazzie writes: “The Navajo Paradigm in which we create the world with our thoughts, grounds and motivates my work as an artist, as a teacher, an Indigenous person who is a member of the Navajo Nation, and asPoster for Mapping Home/Collecting Truth Showcase faculty of the University of Colorado. The key themes and processes central to my work include: outreach to rural communities on the local, national, and global level with Indigenous people, colonization, the idea of homeland, nature, the female archetype, and issues relating to health and safety. My intellectual, creative, classroom, and outreach is rooted in the fact that we learn from one another, through our shared experience in the practice of art-making, an ancient, sustainable way of both being in the world, and a way in which to live together, always in a state of learning. Of principal research interest is our diverse yet shared foundational, theoretical, and philosophical bodies of knowledge that express our connections to our homelands.”
