Christkindlesmarkt is a traditional German Christmas Market. Original markets date back to as far as the late Middle Ages and are a hotspot for German holiday culture. With the growth in business, we’ve chosen 2021 to host our first ever Christkindlesmarkt and we had a blast!

Choosing to incorporate as many traditional Chriskindlesmarkt practices as we could ended up being a great decision. Some of these practices included serving Gluhwein, having Polka bands play traditional Christmas songs, obtaining vendors with only handcrafted products, and providing a variety of German sweets for purchase.

Our market took place four consecutive Saturdays before Christmas and allowed the community to come together for a bit of shopping, drinking, socializing, and celebrating after a long year.

Welcome to the 18th Annual East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition, presented by the Knoxville Museum of Art. The ETRSAE showcases the strength and diversity of art education programs in East Tennessee, celebrates talented middle and high school students, and supports arts education. This annual exhibition provides the opportunity for students to participate in a juried exhibition and to have their artworks displayed in a professional art museum environment. We are so delighted by the quality of the artworks, the dedication of the teachers, and the commitment of the museum staff to establish a museum/school tradition for our community.

Public, private, and home schools grade 6–12 in 32 East Tennessee counties were invited to submit up to 15 artworks per teacher. Categories for the competition include ceramic, drawing, digital imagery/video production, mixed media, painting, computer graphics, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. Each participating school is represented by one work of art.

The Best-in-Show winner receives a Purchase Award of $500, and the artwork becomes a permanent part of the collection of Mr. James Dodson, on loan to the Knoxville Museum of Art’s Education Collection. The Best-in-Middle School winner receives $250. If you are a NAEA/TAEA member and the teacher of the student who is selected as this year’s Best-in-Show and Best in Middle School, you will receive a $100 Art Educator Award from the Knoxville Museum of Art. Each student in the exhibition receives a certificate of participation and the “Best” in each of the 10 categories. The winners receive a cash award and a museum family membership.

I'm a primarily self-taught pastelist who moved to Tennessee in the late autumn of 2020 after decades on the coast of Maine I paint both en plein air and in the studio. My work unabashedly steps away from social commentary. I paint calm. I fall in love with the light and let it define what I'll paint. Because of that emotion I often think of my paintings as intimate portraits of the subject.

This inaugural exhibition of The Bottom’s newly formed Ceramics Soul Collective celebrates the following individuals’ actions: Jalynn Baker, Maggie Connolly, Jazzmine Curtis, Fitrah Hamid Golden, George Habeib, Alex Kellam, Ty Murray, Jeremy Myles, Eric Sherwood, and Kifeney Walker.

Over the last eighteen months, Ceramics Soul Collective has gathered together each week to make, explore creative expressions, and grow the Knoxville Black Creative community through the ceramic art form. The very existence of this class is a testament to the power of individual and collective imagination to resist expectations, repair our ever-expanding souls, and reclaim our creative voices. This project is being supported in whole or in part, by federal award number 21.027 awarded to the City of Knoxville by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Arts & Culture Alliance.

The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present new exhibitions at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from November 3-25, 2023, including the biennial Master Woodworkers Show, November 3-5. A free gathering with the artists will take place on Friday, November 3, from 4:00-9:00 PM, followed by special weekend hours including Saturday, November 4, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Sunday, November 5, 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

This new exhibition features a collection of wall hangings, scarves, pillows, jewelry, should bags and apparel, all of which are based on traditional quilt patterns reimagined in a contemporary way. Sewing techniques include Mexican smocking, satin stitching, sprigging, and applique to create pieces that are all one-of-a-kind.

I am a lifelong fiber/fabric artist whose clothing designs are vibrant contemporary reinventions/reinterpretations and/or reflections of patterns found in Rococo and Art Deco architecture, coupled with and incorporating references to Appalachian quilting patterns and stitching. I work typically with used/recycled denim for its suppleness, hidden charm, and strength. Denim has demonstrated a willingness to be transformed, both in appearance and texture, creating a beautiful finale between the way it was originally designed and the way it looks after I have reinvented its form into a jacket, a handbag, a skirt, and/or perhaps a dress or even throw pillow. Much like a painter or sculptor, my designs can be recognized in my finished clothing, as much of each piece is hand stitched with reflective attention to details, such as thread colors and weight, embellishments such as beads, unique buttons and closures, and most importantly, interesting patterns within patterns. Some of my creations incorporate antique material reinvented for contemporary use.

Tim Bridges studied at the University of Tennessee, Tennessee Technological University, and the School of Fashion Design of Boston. He worked as a visual merchandising coordinator for several major department stores and spent several years designing costumes and sets for theater productions in Florida and Tennessee. He also designed wedding dresses and formal party wear. Bridges now devotes his time and skills to creating wearable art and home accessories in his inimitable style. He is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and recently participated in an exhibit at the Appalachian Regional Commission in Washington as well as exhibitions sponsored by the Guild at the Folk Art Center in Asheville.

This portfolio of work honors the family culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. During Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead), families visit the graves of their deceased loved ones and pray for them. People decorate graves and themselves with marigolds and flowers. They dress themselves in skull masks and skeletons to celebrate life, death, and rebirth. Spirits of ancestors are invited to coexist with their relatives in the earthly world. The spirits are enticed back through altars of their old belongings, personal sugar skulls, and the love of their family. Both the spiritual and celebratory nature of Dia de Muertos are explored in this portfolio. The photographer seeks to share the beauty of the celebration, and the light in the living as they entertain their ancestors.

Scott Carpenter is an amateur photographer and native of Greeneville, TN. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, photographing people and cultural moments. He loves to photograph because photography invites us to understand each other. Photography is a way to share the world as he sees it: in each serene moment there is beauty. In each face there is light. Carpenter’s photography discovers the soul of the person and illuminates their inner beauty.
