Join the Appalachian Ballet Company and Clara on a magical journey to the Land of the Sweets. Principal Artists, Laura Morton La Russa and James La Russa will be taking the stage as Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier, as well as welcoming back guest artists, Aaron Smyth and Alexandre Gonzaga. This production features live music by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for all public performances conducted by ABC’s Music Director, Mr. James Fellenbaum.

The legend of comedian and internet sensation, Ginger Billy, runs as deep as the southern roots from which he was raised. Formerly a respiratory therapist, he burst into prominence after an impassioned farewell speech to NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. went viral after his retirement in 2017. Since then he has become beloved by millions for his kooky redneck antics, backyard inventions, hilarious sketches and parody music videos. His unique and infectious comedic voice has moved beyond the digital realm and on to the stage where his captivating storytelling reflects a down-to-earth family man with a passion for simple pleasures. Having individually played at the Laurel with many established ensembles including the Tennessee Shieks, the Dismembered Tennesseans, Circus No. 9, Don Don & Po, and Strange Company, the various Cassells have coalesced. The band is Don Cassell, Thomas Cassell, Will Cassell, Nicholas Cassell and Vince Ilagan.

Trees Knoxville is having a Tree Planting and Tree Giveaway at Harriet Tubman Park, 300 Harriet Tubman Street, on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
Come join a tree-planting event at Harriet Tubman Park. The event will start with refreshments and a tree-planting demonstration, followed by planting trees in the park. It will conclude with a tree giveaway during which Knoxville residents will have the opportunity to adopt a tree to plant in their own yards.

Marble Springs State Historic Site: Family-Friendly Colonial Christmas Craft Day

Marble Springs State Historic Site is thrilled to welcome families for a special Colonial Christmas Craft Day on Saturday, December 7, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. This free, family-friendly event brings holiday cheer and hands-on 18th-century-inspired crafts to our historic tavern. It’s the perfect chance to help decorate Marble Springs with your creations and make keepsakes to take home. Come for one session or stay all day! Guests of all ages are welcome, with age-appropriate crafts and activities scheduled throughout the day. Each time block includes two craft options, so visitors can choose to make one or try both.
Craft Schedule
11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Paper Crafts (Recommended for ages 6+)
• Paper Snowflakes: Craft intricate paper snowflakes to bring a touch of winter indoors.
• 18th-Century Paper Dolls: Create charming colonial-style paper dolls to take home or display in the tavern.
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm: Garland Making (Recommended for ages 8+)
• Cranberry and Popcorn Garland: String together a traditional garland with cranberries and popcorn.
• Colorful Paper Garland: Make a vibrant paper garland to add holiday cheer.
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm: Spice Ornaments (Recommended for ages 10+)
• Orange Pomanders with Cloves: Craft fragrant pomanders using oranges and cloves—a classic holiday decoration.
• Cinnamon-Scented Pinecones: Create scented pinecones with cinnamon to take home a touch of rustic seasonal warmth.
All-Day Activities
Coloring pages and wooden ornaments will be available throughout the event, providing a fun and flexible option for guests of all ages.
Warm Refreshments by Kraken’s Cup Tearoom
Kraken’s Cup Tearoom will offer complimentary hot tea, cozy drinks, and homemade butter cookies throughout the day. Contributions to support the tearoom are warmly appreciated, and take-home teas will also be available for purchase.

Historic Westwood Holiday Tours

This holiday season, tour the 1890 home, studio and gallery of nationally acclaimed artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz. You’ll enjoy cookies and cocoa as you take in the ornate architectural and design details of Historic Westwood, one of Knoxville’s most impressive Queen Anne style homes. Docents will be positioned throughout the home to share the unique history of this historic artist’s home and studio.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, for the first time ever, we’ll be inviting the public to our underground lair at 123-C S. Gay Street, to see the place (part of which was once at street level before the 1919 viaduct project), and peruse our library and bookshop. Steps are involved, though there is a longer, flatter, way in through the back. Please let us need if you need assistance.
