Marble Springs State Historic Site: Christmas Candlelight Tour & Stargazing Night
Category: Festivals, special events, Free event, History, heritage, Kids, family, Meetup and Science, nature
Marble Springs State Historic Site invites the community to its Christmas Candlelight Tour & Stargazing Night, a free and family-friendly event happening on Friday, December 13th, from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Whether you want to immerse yourself in 18th-century holiday traditions, marvel at the stars, or do a bit of both, this evening offers something for everyone.
Guests can start their evening with the Christmas Candlelight Tour, running from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, as the sun sets over the historic grounds. Visitors will begin with a fireside chat, where they’ll learn about holiday customs in early Tennessee, before taking a guided lantern-lit tour through the candlelit historic buildings. Along the way, they may even meet Tennessee’s first governor, John Sevier, who will share stories and welcome visitors to his home.
For those who prefer stargazing, the evening continues with Stargazing Night, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, hosted in collaboration with the University of Tennessee’s Physics and Astronomy Department. Guests can tailor their experience during this portion of the event. Spend time in the Marble Springs Pavilion listening to UT graduate students give engaging talks about their latest research, or head to the main lawn to view the night sky through telescopes guided by astronomy experts. Visitors are encouraged to explore both activities throughout the evening, making it a night of discovery and wonder.
Whether you join us early for the Candlelight Tour, come later just for Stargazing Night, or stick around for the entire evening, this event promises a memorable holiday experience for all.
Admission: FREE and open to the public
Location: Marble Springs State Historic Site, 1220 W. Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920
Dress for the weather—bring coats, gloves, and sturdy footwear suitable for uneven terrain.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and camp chairs to stay cozy during the stargazing portion.
Firepits will be available for added warmth, and flashlights are recommended for navigating the grounds.
This special event offers the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season while experiencing Tennessee’s rich history and the beauty of the winter night sky. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an astronomy lover, or just looking for a unique way to enjoy the holidays, Marble Springs has something for you. Schulz Brau Brewing: Christkindlesmarkt
Category: Festivals, special events, Free event, History, heritage and Kids, family
Schulz Brau Brewing's Christkindlesmarkt. Our market takes place five consecutive Saturdays & Sunday before Christmas and allows the community to come together for a bit of shopping, drinking, socializing, and celebrating after a long year. The Market will take place every FRIDAY, SATURDAY, & SUNDAY, November 29 thru December 22.
The Market hours are: Friday, 3:00 - 8:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday,
11:00 AM- 8:00 PM at 126 Bernard Avenue.
This is a free, family friendly, rain or shine event.
Christkindlesmarkt is our take on a traditional German Christmas Market. Original markets date back to as far as the late Middle Ages and are a hotspot for German holiday culture. With the growth in business, we hosted our first ever Christkindlesmarkt in 2021 and it was a holly jolly time!
Choosing to incorporate as many traditional Chriskindlesmarkt practices as we could ended up being a great decision. Some of these practices include serving Gluhwein, having Polka bands play traditional Christmas songs, obtaining vendors with only handcrafted products, and providing a variety of German sweets for purchase.
There is much more culture and history of Christkindlesmarkt to uncover. Let’s hope we debut more & more traditions each year!
