Knoxville Contra Dancers

We dance to live music every Monday night at the Laurel Theater (16th St. and Laurel Ave) and the 1st Saturday of the month at the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. All dances start at 7:30 p. We offer a lesson 1/2 hour before each dance.

Admission is by donation, suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for students. **We accept cash, card and Venmo payment for admission at the door** :)

Contra dance is a collection of traditional and contemporary social dances. Beginners are welcome, no partner or experience required. All dances are taught by the caller. It's easy and fun!
We will also help you learn to waltz; just ask!

UT College of Music: Akropolis String Quartet

The Akropolis Reed Quintet will perform Monday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Natalie L. Haslam Music Center’s Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. The performance will showcase the Quintet’s innovative programming, including the world premiere of a new work written by award-winning composer Ryan Lindveit, Lecturer of Music Theory & Composition in the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music. The performance is free and open to the public.

As part of its continued programming expansion, the College of Music will launch the Natalie Haslam Distinguished Artist/Lecturer Residency Series beginning in February, 2025. The series is intended to install world-class artists, musicians, and scholars for residency periods to promote collaboration and offer exposure to music world artistry and expertise. The inaugural residency will bring the Grammy nominated Akropolis Reed Quintet to UTK for a two-day stint that will include an open dress rehearsal preceding an evening concert, followed the next day by lectures and masterclasses that reflect the quintet’s approach to chamber music.

Tennessee Artists Association: Monthly Meeting with Johnny Harris

The Tennessee Artist’s Association will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 18th at 7:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Dr., Knoxville. This meeting is free and open to anyone interested in the arts in East Tennessee. Refreshments will be served.

February’s program will feature Johnny Harris, a woodworker and artist from Nashville. His presentation will cover his woodworking business, H & H WOODWORKS, and how he makes his wooden painter’s palettes. He may have some available for sale at the meeting, or you can order one from him. They are priced from approximately $12 - $129.
