Appalachian Hands Showcase and Sale

The 1st annual APPALACHIAN HANDS Holiday Crafts Show will take place this weekend in Kyles Ford, Tennessee. This Showcase and Sale of Contemporary and Traditional Crafts is set for November 20th and 21st 2009, Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday from 9am to 4pm. A first time event, this show features a wonderful variety of mountain artisans, offering paintings, silver and beaded jewelry, quilted and needle arts, hats, stained glass, soap, candles, prints and photographs, rudimentary musical instruments, decorated gourds, ornaments, holiday decorations and so much more. The craftspeople participating in the two-day event live in the beautiful hills of Appalachia, creating their unique pieces of art in remote areas, thus this forum allows collectors, shoppers and artisans a unique opportunity to meet. All are welcome to have fun and meet the 18+ talented artisans while buying locally this holiday season.

The show will take place inside the Kyles Ford Auction Co. Gallery at 3718 Kyles Ford Hwy - Route 33 in Kyles Ford, Tennessee. Free admission and door prizes both days. Jubilee Community Arts: RB Morris w/ Hector Qirko

Strongly inspired by the Beat poets and a range of musical influences and genres, RB has both reflected and defined a distinctive Knoxville subculture in the course of a more than thirty year career as recording artist, songwriter, poet, playwright and performer. He'll be accompanied by his longtime collaborator and friend the renowned Hector Qirko. He has a new and long awaited CD in hand, Spies Lies and Burning Eyes. This concert is a part of the three-week James Agee Centennial celebration, and RB will present a tribute to the Pulitzer Prize winning author who grew up just down the street from the Laurel Theater. RB will be playing new and old favorites that he has taken around the world and brings back to his hometown pulpit at the Laurel Theater. Always a special performance, and this is one very special. The Laurel Theater is located on the corner of 16th and Laurel Avenue in the historic Fort Sanders neighborhood of Knoxville near the UT campus. 2009-2010 Moxley Carmichael Masterworks series: The November installment of the Masterworks Series features all Germanic composers. The first half of the concert will feature music from the Classical era: Haydn's Symphony No. 16 and Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Benjamin Hochman at the piano. (2009 celebrates Mendelssohn's 200th birthday year.) The second half will offer music from the late Romantic era: the Prelude and Liebestod (Love-Death) from Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier Suite.
