A unique wearable art style show and sale. The theme for the 2010 event is The Power of the Pocket and the featured artist is Rachel D. Clark. Rachel D.K. Clark is a contemporary folk artist, teacher and lecturer who comes from a long line of sewers, beginning with her great-grandmother. She has been doing wearable art since 1973 and teaching on the national circuit since 1990. Eclectic fabric mixes, vibrant designs, and a keen sense of humor characterize Rachel’s work. While her garments and quilts can be whimsical, political or a personal statement it always reflects her love of traditional quilt making. She has done many one-woman shows around the country and her work has been featured in various gallery shows, magazines such as Threads, and “The Quilting Quarterly” on HGTV’s Simply Quilts. In addition, the event includes a runway style show featuring juried, one-of-a-kind garments made by some of the southeast’s finest fiber and multi-media artists. There will be handwoven jackets, scarves from funky to formal, jewelry, hats, bags, belts, handspun alpaca wraps, painted and recycled shirts and jackets…something for every taste and every occasion.
Net proceeds from Tennessee Presents Textiles support the series of week-long fiber arts residencies for all fourth grade students in Madisonville and Tellico Plains. During this residency, students study every aspect of fiber throughout history and within many cultures. Fiber Arts MAD & CC 003 The event will be held at the Tellico West Conference Center at Grand Vista Hotel and Suites in Vonore. Tickets will go on sale in August. Tickets: $40 (Includes lunch)

Presenting HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD IN TEN MINUTES OR LESS. With the support of TN Arts Commission, this workshop/production is free to the public. The six day workshop is being taught by DOUGLAS STEWART, Ed.D, an author, playwright, director and performer. He is a board member of Senior Theatre USA, and an Honorary Board Member of the Santa Fe (New Mexico) Playhouse. His plays have won several competitive awards. His preferred themes are in the areas of social relations, global environment, and our rapidly changing cultural values and behaviors. He has conducted theater workshops for actors, directors, and playwrights in all three of these subject areas. His special interest and focus is in working in these areas with senior performers and playwrights. The workshop will be taught in day and evening sessions.

The plays will be performed November 12 & 13 at The Mason Jar, 1241 Armstrong Avenue, Knoxville. The workshop and performances are FREE but donations are appreciated.
