Blount County Public Library: Dean Moss

  • April 18, 2011
  • 7PM

Category: Lecture, panel

MARYVILLE, TN (April 11, 2011) Dean Moss wrote a memoir about his year in Viet Nam, but the book is not the typical story of war strategy and atrocities. Instead, the book is part love story—based on daily letters Moss and his bride wrote to each other—and part the story of the coming of age of a young man serving his country on the other side of the world.
Moss will relate parts of that story which is written through the eyes of a 20-year-old enlisted man during 1968. The book doesn’t challenge political thought or strategy about the Viet Nam War. Rather, Moss provides a factual outline of the war, filled in by accounts from letters of his personal experiences of adjustment and duty in a hostile environment.
