The Appalachian Ballet Company is performing the classic fairy tale Cinderella at the Clayton Center for the Arts on the Maryville College campus. Kylie Morton, who danced professionally in North Carolina, will dance the role of Cinderella, while Ted Seymour of Chicago is the Prince. Audiences will remember Ted as the Snow King and Arabian Prince in The Nutcracker. The ballet also features Heather Hayes as the Fairy Godmother. Based on the original fairy tale, this performance showcases lavish costumes, sets, and scenery, including Cinderella's carriage. Come enjoy the hilarious fun step-sisters along with baby mice, as well as the beautiful ball with elegant dancers and a stunning Cinderella and Prince. This 90-minute ballet is truly a delight for all ages.

Art Guild Sponsors “A Taste of Elegance” Evening Event
Crossville’s arts community is growing, and it’s time to celebrate with “A Taste of Elegance”! Those who appreciate the arts are invited to attend this special evening event on April 16 in the new Art Circle Public Library located at 3 East Street in downtown Crossville.

The “Taste of Elegance” event includes a sumptuous dinner, musical entertainment, and silent auction. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Wine will be served while guests greet both new and old friends and also view items displayed for the silent auction. At 6:15 p.m., Scarlett Caterers will serve a gourmet dinner. There will be musical entertainment throughout the evening along with the silent auction. Dress will be semi-formal. Tickets are $50.00 per person, including a tax deductible portion of $15.00.

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade is sponsoring this special “Taste of Elegance” evening as its spring fundraising event. Tickets may be purchased at the Plateau Creative Arts Center located at 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine Road) in Fairfield Glade. Tickets may also be purchased at the First National Bank branches in both Crossville and Fairfield Glade, and at the Depot in Crossville. There are a limited number of tickets available for purchase. The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade is a volunteer 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization formed to support and promote the arts. Families are invited to get lost in a good book at this fourth annual event presented by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch at Campbell Station Park located next to the Farragut Branch Library on Campbell Station Road. Children are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite storybook character’s costume. This educational and entertaining event will offer an array of activities throughout the afternoon, from storytelling to book signings to music. Storytellers will include Knox County Public Library librarians Marilyn Jones, Libby Nelson, Meredith Shipley and Fredda Williams and Three Rivers Rambler Conductor Bill Perry. The following local authors will be on hand to meet participants while selling and signing their books: Don Dickinson, “A Bird’s Eye View of the Civil War;” Grant Fetters, “Horace the Hopper;” Connie Jordan Green, “The War at Home” and “Emmy;” Stacy Nickell Miller, “Better than Cookies, As Good as Cake;” and Alex Tedford, “Firven the Warrior.” Additional happenings will include art activities and the Ruff Reading Program, which allows kids to read to dogs. Entertainers will include magician Michael Messing and musicians Frank Galbraith, Samantha Hatmaker and Conny Ottway. Every child will receive a free coloring book and crayons; free hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade will be available beginning at 11 a.m. while supplies last. As an Official Activity of the Dogwood Arts Festival and in celebration of the wonders of springtime and the rich heritage represented in the six historic homes located within Greater Knoxville, two three-hour bus tours will be offered on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The Morning and Afternoon tours feature a step-on tour guide who will discuss points of interest and history as well as highlight historic landmarks in and around Knoxville. The tours stop at each historic home for approximately 50 minutes, allowing guests to tour the homes, grounds, and gardens.

The Morning Tour, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, begins at Blount Mansion, 200 W. Hill Avenue (www.blountmansion.org) and includes visits to Mabry-Hazen House (www.mabryhazen.com) and Crescent Bend House & Gardens.

Knoxville Zoo is hosting a very special evening of feasting and festivities for your
little beasties!; this after-hours event featuring family-friendly food and entertainment.
Modeled after the zoo’s extremely popular grown-up event Feast with the Beasts. This all-ages party will feature samplings of food and treats from many area restaurants. Street theatre performers will entertain event-goers.
The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and their mascot Rufus will be teaching how to prevent dog bites and Simon Kidgits Club at Knoxville Center will have a special treat for little attendees. The evening’s excitement doesn’t stop there; jugglers, face-painters and belly dancers will be keeping things lively throughout the event.
