A hilarious fantasy based on the book by Astrid Lindgren, which was named by Time Magazine as "one of the 100 most influential books of all time." Pippi's story is about the joy of being unique, which is lucky considering that she lives with a monkey, has super-human strength, and has a mysterious suitcase full of gold.

Monroe Area Council for the Arts (MACA) presents another sensational season of performances at Hiwassee College in Madisonville with Connye Florance: Jazz Rhapsody. Explore life, love, heritage and the power of music on an engaging journey through the heart of jazz! In her show Jazz Rhapsody: A Southern Songbird’s Tribute to the Legacy of Jazz, Connye Florance brings to life the legacy of America’s orginal sound with this unique fusion of classic and original jazz, spoken workd, and intimately staged theatre. Jazz Rhapsody features works by Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Langston Hughes, Frank Loesser, Gwendolyn Bennett, and others – with songs made popular by some of America’s foremost jazz icons, including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughn. An award-winning ensemble of musicians completes this 90-minute mosaic of music, poetry and theatre for an empowering and insightful journey.

Although they became one of the most enduring bands in the alternative country-rock catalog, Old 97’s drew inspiration from a broader range of sources, including the twangy stomp of cowpunk and the melodies of power pop. The four Texans have just released an explosive new album that captures the sound their fans treasure while excitingly veering their songwriting and production into new areas. The 97’s sound is expertly rounded out by band members: Murry Hammond, Ken Bethea and Philip Peeples. Together as a band they’ve proved that they’ll rock America from coast to coast.

A Brazilian band, Japanese fan dancing, a plateful of exotic goodies, and all of a sudden, you’re having a great time!
Pellissippi State Community College invites the public to an evening of free entertainment and food. The event features African drumming, a Caribbean steel band, and Hungarian, Latin, and Indian dancing, among other activities.

Festival-goers will also have the opportunity to try more than 30 tasty dishes, including Spanish ceviche, Haitian griot, German bratwurst, Korean bibimbap—even collard greens and cornbread.

The festivities take place at the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road, with performances in the Goins Building College Center and Auditorium.

The Athens Community Theater will present the comedy, THE NERD by Larry Shue in the Sue E. Trotter Theater.

THE NERD is directed by Athens Community Theater veteran Bob Roseberry. The show opens with dinner theater on April 14th. Dinner theater doors open at 6:00 PM with a cash bar and all seats are $25 in advance. Other performances at 7:30 PM are on April 15,16,21,22, and 23. There is one matinee on Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 PM. Tickets for all except the dinner performance are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Thursday, April 21 is student night and all students are admitted for $5. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra celebrates 75 years of music during the 2010-2011 season! In April Maestro Richman will complete the cycle of Beethoven symphonies with the long awaited Symphony No. 9, featuring the Knoxville Choral Society. Joining the orchestra and choral society will be mezzo-soprano Katherine Altobello, alto Emily Douglass, tenor Jonathon Subìa and bass Benjamin LeClaire. The orchestra and chorus will also perform the Tennessee premiere of Bolcom’s Choral Fantasy with Jeffrey Biegel on piano. In partial fulfillment of their graduation requirements, students pursuing the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree are required to mount a solo exhibition of work, and to defend their work during an oral examination in front of a faculty committee.
Due to the number of graduate students enrolled in the UT Department of Art, these exhibitions generally take the form of small groups of students presenting concurrent solo exhibitions in the gallery space. At this time, the Ewing Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibitions of three MFA candidates, Ren Cummings, Kate Faulkner, and Jason Shoemaker.
