The Wild Thyme Players’ stage combat training program, “Shake, Rattle & Role” will hold open auditions for “Duels & Desserts” and ONLINE FIGHTING at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church off Merchants Drive in North Knoxville. “Duels & Desserts” will be a stage combat exhibition featuring a special presentation of ONLINE FIGHTING, by local playwright HARRISON YOUNG. The performance will take place September 9 at Candoro Marble Works in South Knoxville. Auditions are open to all interested individuals aged 16 and over. No experience with stage combat is necessary, though some movement or choreography experience (i.e., martial arts, dance, gymnastics) is helpful. Actors will be considered for parts in several fight scenes comprising a variety of weapons including Broadsword, Rapier & Dagger, Quarterstaff, Epee, Knife & Unarmed Stage Combat. Eight roles are available for ONLINE FIGHTING, including three that do not require stage combat (awareness of stereotypical video game characters a plus). All training and equipment will be provided FREE of charge. “Shake, Rattle & Role” instructors are members of and train with the Society of American Fight Directors. Category: Fundraisers, History, heritage and Kids, family

Come join us at the historic Ramsey House Plantation for a spirited good time. Local celebrities will be on hand to tell haunting stories in the candlelit house and cabin and will be available during a meet-and-greet time in our visitors center.

We are excited to have Ed Archer with us whose Civil War medical instruments have been used on “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”; Glory; Gettysburg; and Gods and Generals just to name a few. Ed will present a demonstration of Civil War medicine and surgery featuring an amputation; this demonstration will be under the tent at 9:30 p.m. and not for the squeamish.

In addition, there will be music by historic fiddler Chip Bailey, food by Flat Creek BBQ, a marshmallow roast, and Halloween tricks and treasures. Gerald and Sandra Augustus will have a display of Civil War weaponry and mourning clothing. We will have reenactors from a Scottish regiment telling ghost stories from their sleeping quarters.

Also, we are asking folks to bring canned food for Second Harvest as there is nothing scarier than going to bed hungry. Cost is $10. Other than the Civil War demonstration, children 10 years and up should enjoy this event.

Ramsey House Plantation is located off of Governor John Sevier Highway at 2614 Thorngrove Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914. For more information you may call us at 865-546-0745 or go to our site at www.ramseyhouse.org.

Category: Exhibitions, visual art and History, heritage

Opening Reception: First Friday July 1, 5:00–9:00 p.m.
2011 marks the 150-year anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. On view will be 41 paintings, which document the important battles of the Civil War including Gettysburg, Chattanooga, Vicksburg, Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Knoxville among others. The paintings are mixed media collage--part graphics with watercolor and colored pencil merging in the background that portray the realism and tragedy of the Civil War. LeFevre objectively documented each battle and he avoided revealing any personal preference he may have had for the Union or the Confederacy.

Richard LeFevre taught graphic design and illustration courses at The University of Tennessee for 33 years and was the first graphic design faculty member hired by the Department of Art. He continued his professional career while teaching at UT. One of his most enduring interests was the history of the Civil War. He served as President of the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable and was an activeCivil War reenactment soldier. Richard LeFevre died in 2000 and bequeathed this collection to UT’s Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture.
