Some of our guests will be bringing daughters and granddaughters. We will be serving a variety of teas and luscious deserts. Each table will be set with china and roses. During the Tea, you’ll also be able to enjoy a fashion show and live music. Each guests is asked to wear a hat, whether elegant or whimsical. A prize will be given for the “Best Hat.” The Fashion Show this year will be conducted by “Nostalgia,” the vintage clothing boutique on Homberg Drive. The vintage clothing will be for sale if guests see outfits they just can’t resist! Michelle Silva is tentatively scheduled to narrate the Fashion Show, depending on her schedule. We are very proud to have as our musical entertainment father and daughter Clark and Cecilia Miller, guitarist and cellist respectively. Cecilia is in her third year of cello study at UT with Dr. Wesley Baldwin, plays in the UT Symphony Orchestra, studio orchestras, and with various chamber ensembles. She has recorded and performed with Little Red Lung, Maggie Longmire, and Senryu. Her jazz trio, The Rollaway Marbles, performs regularly, and she is currently working on a project with guitarist and mandolinist Michelle Porter. Clark Miller, a “finger-style” guitarist, has played with bands in Europe and several states, and performs regularly at the Laurel Theater. Clark and Cecilia recently performed on WDVX Radio’s “Blue Plate Special” and often play at weddings and other “gigs” throughout East Tennessee.

With so many exotic and noxious weeds threatening wildlife and entire ecosystems, it is time to reconsider the plants we use in our landscapes. East Tennessee is home to one of the most biologically diverse areas of the world so it is no wonder that we have some of the most hardy and beautiful plants in the world. Join KBGA staff member Brian Campbell for this informative workshop to discuss how native plants can make your landscape eco-friendly and how you can deal with exotic invasives. The workshop will be followed by an optional walk through the Wallis Butterfly Meadow, a 10-acre area that we are in the early stages of rehabilitating. Please call Dana to pre-register.

The Knoxville Museum of Art presents Art by the Kids, For the Kids in the KMA Education Gallery. The exhibition showcases artworks created by the oncology and hematology patients of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Organized by University of Tennessee Dance Marathon, the exhibition is part of a year-long effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer and other blood diseases. One of Shakespeare's first plays, Comedy of Errors is also one of his funniest. Two sets of identical twins (!) with the same names (!!) - Dromio and Antipholus, who were separated as infants grow up in rival cities, Ephesus and Syracuse, with no knowledge of the others whereabouts - until the twins from Syracuse pay a visit to Ephesus.

Shakespeare's towering tragedy of an outsider who excites fear and hatred because of his "differentness." This play of jealously and revenge, of cruelty and murder is set in motion by the passing over of Iago for a promotion he feels should be his. He determines to destroy the man he holds responsible - the noble warrior, Othello - the Moor of Venice.

2011 marks the 150-year anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. On view will be 41 paintings, which document the important battles of the Civil War including Gettysburg, Chattanooga, Vicksburg, Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Knoxville among others. The paintings are mixed media collage--part graphics with watercolor and colored pencil merging in the background that portray the realism and tragedy of the Civil War. LeFevre objectively documented each battle and he avoided revealing any personal preference he may have had for the Union or the Confederacy.

Richard LeFevre taught graphic design and illustration courses at The University of Tennessee for 33 years and was the first graphic design faculty member hired by the Department of Art. He continued his professional career while teaching at UT. One of his most enduring interests was the history of the Civil War. He served as President of the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable and was an activeCivil War reenactment soldier. Richard LeFevre died in 2000 and bequeathed this collection to UT’s Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture.

Art Market Gallery of Knoxville is pleased to present an exhibit of recent works by Marjorie Horne and Lisa Kurtz, both of Knoxville.

Marjorie Horne is a member of several watercolor and colored pencil societies, her work has been exhibited internationally and an award-winning watercolor and colored pencil artist. Influenced by a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, cityscapes, nature studies, florals and figures, recurrent themes in her works are transparent and reflective surfaces which are affected and enhanced by their environments.
Lisa Kurtz creates functional wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramic wares out of white stoneware clay. While many of her pieces begin as traditional forms, she alters them to give them playful, inviting personalities and further enhances them with splashes of colored glazes. A member of several craft guilds, she exhibits in a number of group shows each year.

A First Friday Reception for the exhibit is planned for July 1 from 5:30-9 pm with complimentary refreshments and live music.
