Tennessee Theatre: Silent Movie "Sparrows"
Category: Film
On Sunday November 27, 2011 the silent movie golden era of the 1920s will return to the big screen at the Historic Tennessee Theatre. The movie Sparrows starring Mary Pickford will be shown with Wurlitzer organ accompaniment by Ron Carter. The Tennessee Theatre is one of the few venues in the United States where silent films with organ accompaniment can be shown in a historic Movie Palace.
Sparrows combines sentiment and adventure to create one of Mary Pickford’s best films. Based on true accounts, Sparrows tells the tale of a group of young orphans led by the oldest girl Molly (Pickford) living on a “baby farm†in the middle of a dangerous swamp. The orphans struggle against the cruel caretaker Mr. Grimes who works them constantly, makes them sleep in a barn, and gives them little food. The children have faith that they will be rescued by God, but they are forced to make a harrowing escape across a swamp filled with quicksand and alligators to gain their freedom.
3:00 PM. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children and seniors. Tickets are on sale at the Clinch Avenue ticket office. They may be ordered by phone by calling the ticket office at 684-1200.

Museum of East TN History: Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War
Category: History, heritage
Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War examines how President Lincoln used the Constitution to confront three intertwined crises of the Civil War - the secession of Southern states, slavery, and wartime civil liberties. The exhibition is composed of informative panels featuring photographic reproductions of original documents including a draft of Lincoln's first inaugural speech, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Thirteenth Amendment.
