Jubilee Community Arts: Andy Irvine

Category: Music

Musician, singer, and songwriter Andy Irvine has maintained his highly
individual performing skills throughout his 45 year career. From Sweeney's Men in the mid 60s, to the enormous success of Planxty in the 70s and then from Patrick Street to Andy Irvine & Dónal Lunny's Mozaik, Andy has been a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and musicians. As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie. To quote the Irish Times, "Often copied, never equalled", his repertoire
consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dances and a compelling cannon of his own self-penned songs.

Tennessee Stage Company: Shakespeare Outloud

5350.jpg

Category: Literature, spoken word, writing and Theatre

We have decided to work on a new approach to our readings of Shakespeare’s plays at the library downtown and we have a new format that I think will be a lot of fun.

We are going to read quarterly rather than monthly, and we are going to look for people to direct each reading. So we’ll ask that they do a cutting and at least some casting ahead of time which we will then fill out with people who come and want to read on the day of. Reading quarterly rather than monthly will mean that directors will have more time to prepare their scripts and put some actors together. So, if you have an interest please contact me so we can set it up.

Our next reading is planned for December and we are looking to do “Twelfth Night” which we know was performed as a Christmas piece by Shakespeare’s company and for which we have a good cut on hand.

If you are interested in Directing please get in touch.
