"Remembering and Honoring the Art of Ted Burnett"
A Special Art Show Benefiting the East Tennessee Historical Society
Village Fine Arts Gallery | Sunday, October 14, from 2:00-7:00 p.m.

Village Fine Art Gallery, in cooperation with ETHS, is privileged to present a retrospective of works by Knoxville artist, Ted Burnett. The exhibition and reception will be held at the Gallery, 4660 Old Broadway, from 2:00 pm. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Burnett's artwork benefiting ETHS.

Burnett's many awards include the Hallmark International Award, and his work was included in numerous museum and gallery exhibits nationwide.

Burnett excelled in a variety of media and styles in an array of subjects, including textured florals, abstract and realistic landscapes, modern expressionist paintings in mixed media, and a series replicating mosaics. Whatever the style and media, Ted was a master at capturing his feelings about the subject, as well as the image. Bill and Carolyn Mullins of Village Fine Art Gallery are especially honored and grateful to be chosen as the exclusive representative of the Burnett Estate collection - works of art that showcase the best of Ted's creative genius from the 1940s until his untimely death in 1982.
For more information about Ted Burnett and the exhibition and reception, please visit www.eastTNhistory.org.

A traveling exhibition of the atomic art of Doug Waterfield with paintings of an exploration of atomic testing phenomena and subsequent 1950's atomic culture.
An exploration of atomic testing phenomena and subsequent 1950's atomic culture is captured in "DOOMTOWN," the original paintings of atomic art by Doug Waterfield in his exhibition opening October 12 at the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge.

When the Atomic Energy Commission, predecessor to the Department of Energy, began 1950's testing of atomic bombs in the Nevada Test Site, the creation of several "Survival Towns" also known as "Doomtowns" were part of the test. These replica towns were built to see what the effects of the detonation of atomic weapons would have on Anytown, USA. The houses were furnished and peopled with mannequins. The photos and film footage that survives from these tests was quite influential on Waterfield's painting series, entitled "Doomtown." It is a commentary on a bygone age of American history, and is an effort to bring awareness to the past known as the Atomic Age - an age of optimism, technological advances and unmitigated paranoia.

Doug Waterfield is an Arkansas native currently residing in Nebraska with his family. He is an associate professor art at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. His work has been shown nationally for the past 25 years.
