The Last Friday Art Walk is a recurring event to celebrate the arts on the last Friday of every month in Downtown Maryville. What's unique about it is that it's not just galleries participating. It's also businesses like bars, retail stores, restaurants, theaters, and coffee shops. Each participating business hosts a "featured artist," this includes all disciplines of art; visual arts, performance artists, actors, writers, dancers, musicians, etc. New artists and new art are required each month, which gives the community a new experience each time they come.

Presented by the Maryville Arts Coalition. Information: http://www.maryvilleartwalk.com or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maryville-Last-Friday-ArtWalk/101193813269860

Jubilee Community Arts: Clyde Davenport and Michael DeFosche

Old-Time Fiddle
One of the most important figures in the southern mountain fiddle tradition is 90-year-old Clyde Davenport from Fentress County on the Cumberland Plateau. Following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and three of his brothers, all fiddlers, Davenport began playing before he was ten. His repertory emphasizes the spooky, eccentric solo fiddle tunes played for listening, too crooked to dance to, played in a gliding and graceful style. In 1992 the National Endowment for the Arts recognized Davenport with a National Heritage Award, and in 2007 he received the Tennessee Governor’s Folklife Heritage Award. Bobby Fulcher and Michael DeFosche will accompany Davenport. In the second set Michael will play fiddle.

Tickets (if available) will also be sold at the door the night of the event for $12.

The Laurel Theater is located on the corner of 16th and Laurel Avenue in the historic Fort Sanders neighborhood of Knoxville near the UT campus. For additional information, call (865) 522-5851, e-mail concerts@jubileearts.org, or visit www.jubileearts.org.
