Side Splitters Comedy Club: Last Comic Standing winner Josh Blue

Perhaps best known as the comedian who puts the cerebral in Cerebral Palsy, Josh Blue exploded onto the national comedy scene by capturing the attention and endearment of the country as the winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Having already established himself as one of the most sought after comedians on the college circuit, his weekly appearances on Last Comic Standing expanded his fan base exponentially. Josh debuted a new special, Comedy Central Presents: Josh Blue, which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Most recently, Josh starred in his own one-hour Showtime Special, "Sticky Change", where he cracks jokes and tells stories about everything from being a white African-American, to dealing with cabbies who think he'll pay in sticky change.

McClung Museum: KMA Curator Stephen Wicks Lecture

In celebration of the upcoming exhibit, "The Collector's Eye: American and European Art From The McClung Museum," Knoxville Museum of Art's Barbara W. and Bernard E. Bernstein Curator, Stephen Wicks, will give a lecture on East Tennessee artists in the McClung Museum auditorium. Wicks, a scholar on local artists such as Lloyd Branson and Charles Krutch, will talk about the 19th and early 20th century art scene in Knoxville, and discuss artwork from the McClung's collections featured in "The Collector's Eye," as well as at the Knoxville Museum of Art.

As we celebrate the end of our pirate-themed camp, all are welcome to join us for a picnic and accessible movie (closed captioning and dvs available) in the backyard of ETTAC. Games will begin at 5:00, dinner from 5:30 - 6:30 and our movie (to be held inside): Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl at 7:00 pm.
Wonderful nuggets provided by Chick-Fil-A in South Knoxville, and lookout for a special appearance from cow-pirates!

Athens Area Council for the Arts: A Very Good Place to Art

The Athens Area Council for the Arts announces A Very Good Place to Art featuring paintings, drawings, and pottery by students and instructors of AACA visual arts classes. The work can be viewed at The Arts Center, 320 North White Street, Athens, Tennessee, from June 23 – July 31, 2014.
This exhibit gives local art students and their instructors an opportunity to show what they have created as a part of art classes at The Arts Center.
The opening reception is Friday, June 27 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The reception will include light refreshments and is free and open to the public.

McClung Museum: Archaeokids: Exploring Ancient Art & Archaeology Summer Camp

Archaeokids: Exploring Ancient Art and Archaeology, is a McClung Museum Summer Camp that focuses on archaeology and the art of ancient Native Americans and ancient Egyptians. It is open to rising fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. It lasts five days, three hours per day, for one week.

Fountain City Art Center: 9th Annual FCAC Open Show

Fountain City Art Center invites all 2-D and 3-D artists to enter the 9th Annual FCAC Open Show. Artists will bring in work from 10 AM to 5 PM on Tuesday, June 17. The opening reception and awards presentation will be on Friday, June 20 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. The exhibit will be on view to the public through July 12. Ten cash awards from $200 to $30 will be given based on the merit of the work, not on the category. East Tennessee Historical Society: Reading Appalachia: Voices from Children's Literature

Join author George Ella Lyon for the grand opening of this unique exhibit on June 15 from 2-5 at the East Tennessee History Center.
More than 50 books are available to touch, read, and explore. The exhibit also includes representative clothes and toys from Appalachia, music, and hands on activities that bring the subject to life for kids of all ages. Exhibit runs June 16 - September 14.

McClung Museum: The Collector's Eye: American & European Art

The McClung Museum is the University of Tennessee’s museum, and in that sense, has been the recipient of the varied objects that alumni have gifted to the University. Among those gifts is a significant grouping of American and European art, representative of major artistic movements from impressionism, to modernism, to neo-plasticism. Indeed, the studied taste of a handful of collectors has not only helped form the backbone of the McClung Museum’s art collection, but has also shaped the history of the museum itself. This exhibit—which features around fifty paintings, sculptures, and works on paper—explores the work of American and European artists, and the influence that art patrons and collectors have had on the McClung Museum.

Like many university museums, the McClung Museum has been gifted a wide variety of art since it opened its doors fifty years ago. From Matisse to East Tennensee artists, and from nineteenth century society portraits to twentieth century abstract art, these approximately 50 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper reflect collector’s tastes, and how history has shaped culture and art over time.
The McClung Museum is open to the public and admission is free.
The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive on the UT campus.
