SISTER ACT is Broadway's feel-amazing musical comedy smash! The New York Post calls it "RIDICULOUSLY FUN,” and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement! Featuring original music by 8-time Oscar winner ALAN MENKEN (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent! Cresthill Cinema Club: Salute to Tinseltown’s Four-legged Stars!
Category: Film
Friday, December 5, at 7:00 pm, the CCC will be welcoming in the holidays in a most heartwarming way – as we present our first-ever salute to Tinseltown’s four-legged stars!
The feature portion of our evening will find us unspooling a gorgeous Technicolor print of Son of Lassie. Produced in 1945 by MGM, the film finds Lassie parting from her pup Laddie, who enters the canine corps, going on to outwit Nazi troops in occupied Norway. On screen humans include young Peter Lawford, June Lockhart, Donald Crisp, Nigel Bruce, Donald Curtis and Nils Asther. Breathtakingly photographed and filled with excitement, sentiment and plenty of tail-wagging, Son of Lassie will be captivating you from start to finish.
Son of Lassie will be preceded by another animally-enchanting drama, “Blind Faith,” a 1955 episode of the memorable CBS-TV series, My Friend Flicka. Ten-year-old Johnny Washbook is cast as Flicka’s pal, Ken, while Anita Louise and Gene Evans play his parents, Nell and Rob. All deliver super performances in the wrenching “Blind Faith,” whose story has Flicka accidentally hit by a hunter’s bullet. The hunter turns out to be a surgeon – and he is begged by Ken to operate on the horse. Believe me, folks, what transpires here will have all of you misty-eyed.
However you’ll sure be grinning from ear-to-ear at the outset of our December program – as Porky Pig holds court in The Pest That Came to Dinner (1948).
Our location: The spacious clubhouse of the Windover Apartments. The journey there will take you to Cheshire Drive (off Kingston Pike, near the Olive Garden); going down Cheshire, turn right at the Windover Apartments sign, then go to the third parking lot on your right, next to the pool. There, the building that houses the clubhouse and offices of the Windover will be just a few steps away! Info: CresthillCinema@aol.com
