American Museum of Science and Energy: STEAM Out Hunger Food Drive

STEAM out Hunger food drive - As part of the “STEAM Out Hunger” exhibit, AMSE is offering free admission during a weekend-long food drive. Admission will be free to visitors who bring four canned or non-perishable food items per person. All food collected and the cans from the exhibit structure will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank to provide hunger relief in the East Tennessee community.

Mabry-Hazen House: Annual Christmas Tours

The Mabry-Hazen House invites you to join us for our Annual Christmas Tours. Rooms and other areas will be decorated by well known Knoxville decorators as well as volunteers and museum staff. The event is free of charge and light refreshments will be served. Christmas Tours are scheduled for Saturday, December 13th from 5-8pm and Sunday, December 14th from 2-5pm. Donations are encouraged

Historic Ramsey House: Wreath Making Workshop

Historic Ramsey House will be offering its annual holiday wreath-making workshop at the Ramsey House Visitors’ Center. Refreshments served at 12:30 p.m. Participants will design and create holiday wreaths from natural materials. All materials will be provided. Cost is $35.00 per person.

The workshop will be taught by creative Julia Shiflett, experienced floral designer. Join us in an afternoon of fun and creativity while making your own natural wreath. Pomanders and swags will also be offered. Bring your garden shears and gloves and any favorite greenery or berries you wish to add.

East Tennessee Historical Society: Holiday Open House

Cookies and apple cider will warm the day at the East Tennessee Historical Society’s Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 13. Entertainment will be provided by the Kids in America Show Choir from Holston Middle School and Appalachian folklore and mountain ballads will be performed by professional storyteller Elizabeth Rose. Activities include craft demonstrations and the sale of handmade items, free ornament and craft making for the kids, and holiday refreshments. Visitors are invited to browse the ETHS Museum Store for a 10% discount on a great selection of traditional gifts, history books, and children's items. The discount is good for this day only. ETHS members receive 15% off throughout the month of December. Looking for the gift that gives all year? Pick up a gift membership and your loved ones will receive publications and special benefits throughout the year.

Museum admission is free for the day. Exhibits currently on view include the feature exhibition Made in Tennessee: Manufacturing Milestones, an East Tennessee Streetscape and Corner Drug Store, and Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee, a look at 300 years of history, from the Cherokee to the 1982 World’s Fair. Also on display for the holiday season is a crèche made in Germany and brought to East Tennessee in 1883. The beautifully carved nativity set and carousel belonged to the Fickey family of Wartburg. Family legend indicates that it had origins in the Fickeys’ home district of Erzgebirge some 150 years before being brought to this country.

All events are free and open to the public from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

WDVX: Kidstuff Live - Roger Day

Kidstuff, hosted by Sean McCollough, is a show full of high-quality music geared to kids and the kids at heart airing every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. On most Saturdays, the show is a mix of recorded and live music from inside the WDVX studio. Celebrate East Tennessee songwriter Van Eaton’s new release Love, Laughter and Loss. Van’s song “It’s Just the Night” was covered by Del McCoury on the album of the same name. Van will be joined by Aram Takvoryan, Stevie Jones, Pat Baker and Captain Kirk, the Appalachian Hippie Poet and the Barstool Romeos.

Tickets, if available, will be for sale at the door for $12.

Breakfast With Santa

Santa will be at the Comfort Inn Oak Ridge for breakfast on Saturday, December 13. There will be two [2] seatings. The first begins at 9 AM, the second at 10:30 AM. There is a limit of 100 children for each seating.

Activities include Christmas crafts, Holiday Movies on the big screen and snapshots with Santa. Spots fill up quickly so make your reservations early. All proceeds from Breakfast with Santa benefit CASA of the Tennessee Heartland. Organizer suggest a donation of $5 for each child having breakfast.

Clinton Timely Topics Club: Christmas in our Town

Please join the Clinton Timely Topics Club on December 13th at the Clinton Middle School's newly renovated gym for 'Christmas in Our Town.' The Timely Topics Club, established in 1934, is a women's social club that provides community services to Clinton. 'Christmas in our Town' is being held to raise funds for the Clinton High School's scholarship program and band, and to support town school libraries, Tennessee Girl's State and other community projects.

This holiday arts & crafts sale runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm. In addition to the Arts & Crafts show there will be food vendors to include a mobile BBQ van in front of the school and a CMS student concession stand in the school foyer. Musical acts will perform in the auditorium and gym balcony, and antique cars will be parked next to the school. Also, this event leads up to the annual Clinton Christmas Parade that begins at 6:00pm in downtown Clinton - just one block from the school.

100% of the dollars received from the registration fees will go toward our community service projects, primarily, the Clinton High School Scholarship Program.
