Theatre Knoxville Downtown: I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

Category: Theatre

February 13-March 1, 2015
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change by Joe DiPietro, Music by Jimmy Roberts

The second-longest running Off Broadway musical. Nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award as Outstanding Off-Broadway musical in 1997. This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as 'the relationship.' Act I explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, while Act II reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, 'Say, what are you doing Saturday night?'

"Hilarious! The most entertaining show on or off Broadway!" – Gannett Newspapers
"If this show were a blind date, you'd feel relieved, grateful and pleasantly surprised." – Newsday
"So smartly conceived...catchy tunes and witty lyrics." – Variety

Cresthill Cinema Club: Laraine Day/Bride by Mistake

  • February 13, 2015
  • 8:00 PM

Category: Film

The February 13 bill will be cast under the spell of the incandescent Laraine Day, in two roles that demonstrate why the actress was a queen of the romance genre during Hollywood’s golden age.

Day’s sparkling nature will be prevailing in our feature, the delightful Bride by Mistake (1944). The quintessence of World War II romance comedies, Bride by Mistake is built upon a plot that’s too complicated to put into a few, short sentences. However, rest assured, folks; the film’s pretty easy to comprehend while viewing. Penned by that noted writing couple, Henry and Phoebe Ephron, Bride By Mistake has our lovely Laraine cast as one of the richest girls in America. Living legend Marsha Hunt costars Day’s assistant – and sometimes-double. The peerless character actor Allyn Joslyn is Marsha’s fiancé, while the beloved Edgar Buchanan portrays Laraine’s overly-protective guardian. Leading man honors go Alan Marshal, the always-dashing Aussie who holds court in Bride by Mistake as the US Army captain who simultaneously woos the love-struck Laraine and the engaged Marsha!

This valentine of a movie will be preceded by a tearfully romantic Laraine Day saga. It’s a 1956 episode of Celebrity Playhouse, the acclaimed NBC-TV anthology. Entitled “Tomorrow We May Part,” the show costars William Bishop and Frank Albertson. They're terrific but you’ll be over the moon about Laraine, who’ll be tugging at your heartstrings throughout – as a terminally-ill lass who unexpectedly finds herself entering into a relationship.

Our location: The spacious clubhouse of the Windover Apartments. The journey there will take you to Cheshire Drive (off Kingston Pike, near the Olive Garden); going down Cheshire, turn right at the Windover Apartments sign, then go to the third parking lot on your right, next to the pool. There, the building that houses the clubhouse and offices of the Windover will be just a few steps away!

Elissa Graff, Recent Work
February 9-27
Elissa Graff’s work in enamel draws on nature in both functional and spiritual ways. For each enamel piece, Graff’s art is drawn twice with wire—first fused into fired silica and then drawn as an abstraction of the enamel image for the pendant setting. Each piece is then set like a stone into a related metal and hung from chains, and each encapsulates a moment and memory forever within glass.
