With quality arts and crafts booths, arts in action, performing arts, culinary arts demonstrations and tastings, and an expanded children’s creation station, several blocks of downtown Knoxville are transformed into a lively street fair for the Dogwood Arts Festival! There will be more than 60 local and regional juried artists exhibiting and selling their original work in mixed media, clay, drawing/pastels, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, painting, photography, sculpture, and wood. In addition to the artist areas in Market Square and Krutch Park extension, enjoy cooking demonstrations, festive food creations, and delicious wine and beer pairings at the Culinary Arts Stage. Live performances all weekend long on the Market Square stage, the Union Avenue pop-up stage, and the Children’s stage. Blooming Boulevard returns to the Dogwood Arts Festival providing unique colorful flower markets filled with live blooming plants, herbs, flowers, and trees. Join us for a spring celebration of our region’s arts, culture, and natural beauty in the heart of downtown Knoxville!

Presented by the Townsend Artisan Guild and the Tennessee Valley Handspinners Guild, the Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival offers opportunities to explore and learn about the “sheep to shawl” process including carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving, felting, knitting and crochet. Enjoy animal and fiber art demonstrations, classes, and shop at a marketplace for fiber art supplies and finished goods.

The Townsend Artisan Guild, Townsend, TN, has announced its sixth annual Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival, to be held at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, April 17 – 19, 2015. The event will again offer its popular vendors marketplace; family activities; live animal displays; fiber arts demonstrations; and classes for beginners through advanced fiber enthusiasts. General admission is free, though classes and some family activities require a fee. In addition, pre-registration for classes is requested and is now open (visit event website, below.) Hours for the event are 9 am to 5 pm on April 17 and 18 (Fri/Sat), and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

Classes are offered for beginning through advanced levels, and include weaving, crocheting, needle felting, basket making, rug hooking, cabling, yarn dyeing, and much more, including the popular spinning classes by Jennifer Bennett of Harmony Wools Alpacas, Sweetwater, TN. Dozens of classes are offered, with new classes added for 2015. Details, including vendor and class lists, and how to register for classes, may be found on the event website, www.smokymountainfiberartsfestival.org. Demonstrations will again be available for adults and children to explore the various techniques of working with fibers. The demonstrators will help the beginner identify where to begin, and help resolve questions of the more experienced fiber enthusiast.Scheduled children’s activities include weaving, clay modeling, and llama walks. In addition, many of the fiber arts classes are suitable for ages 12 and above.

The sixth annual Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival (SMFAF) takes place Friday and Saturday, and Sunday April 17-19, at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, Townsend, Tennessee. The festival celebrates Fiber Arts, beginning with the raw materials, through the creative processes, and finally, the finished goods or art pieces.

Fiber Art demonstrations will be held at the Townsend Visitors Center beginning Tuesday, April 9 and continuing throughout the festival.

To enhance the audience experience, the CBT will continue, and in some cases expand, several popular programs in 2014-2015. Open captioned productions also will continue in the new season, taking place on the first Sunday matinee of each show. Talk backs, which are informative discussions with the director and cast, will continue to take place following the second Sunday matinee of each show.

COLOR STUDY WORKSHOP with Sam Hill

Sam considers the understanding of color relationships to be one of the most valuable tools for any visual artist. In this workshop you will learn how to easily create the colors you want and how to keep from ending up with mud. Our focus is palette development for effect, warm and cool color relationships, and putting it all together with fun painting exercises. The focus will be on watercolor.

Youth Theatre Workshop, in coordination with Athens Community Theatre, presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (revised) in the Sue E. Trotter Black Box Theater at The Arts Center in Athens, TN. Directed by Kendra Johnson, with musical direction by Mike Dannel, accompaniment by Brittany Duggan, and choreography by Tyler Peaden. ACT’s Youth Theatre Workshop spring musical is a light-hearted romp through an average day in the life of Charlie Brown. Made of little vignettes – from Valentine’s Day to baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair – the show follows Charlie and his gang of human and non-human friends from a bright uncertain morning to a hopeful starlit evening. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (revised) is based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schultz, with book and music by Clark Gesner, this production has additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional lyrics by Andrew Lippa.

Performances are April 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 PM and March 12 and 19 at 2:00 PM. Tickets for all performances are $15 for adults, $8 for students.
