The Market Square Farmers’ Market is an open-air farmers’ market located on Market Square in the heart of downtown Knoxville and is celebrating its 12th season this year. The MSFM is a producer only market; everything is either made or grown by the vendor in our East Tennessee region. Products vary by the season and include ornamental plants, produce, dairy, eggs, honey, herbs, meat, baked goods, jams/jellies, coffee, & artisan crafts. With interactive fountains, delicious local food and entertainment, as well as tasty lunch options from some of Knoxville’s best food trucks, the MSFM is a perfect family destination.

In addition to locally-grown produce, local food products, handmade crafts, nursery plants, and mobile food trucks, shoppers at the 2015 Market Square Farmers’ Market will also find:

“VEGGIE VALET” SERVICE: Shoppers are invited to drop off their market purchases with a volunteer at the Wall Avenue info booth while they bring their vehicle around to pick up.

DOG-FREE ZONES: Due to health and safety concerns for shoppers, vendors, and pets, pets are prohibited in the aisle between vendors on Market Square and Market Street.

2015-2016 EAST TENNESSEE LOCAL FOOD GUIDE: Copies of the 2015-2016 edition of the East Tennessee Local Food Guide will be available at the Market Square Farmers’ Market information booth on the corner of Union and Market.

On May 2, at 2:00PM in McClung Museum, film director Ron Maxwell with screen excerpts from his Civil War films, Gettysburg, Gods and Generals and Copperhead in the museum auditorium. Following the screenings, producer and museum advisory board member Steve Dean will moderate a question and answer session with Maxwell. The event is free and open to the public.

In his second year as choral director, Seth Maples will lead the Oak Ridge Chorus in a vocal finale to wrap up our season. The concert will feature selections by two versatile contemporary composers, Belmont University professor Jeffery Ames and American composer Daniel E. Gawthrop.

This year’s Art Guild special evening event will travel to a new location. On Saturday, May 2, a glittering “Meet Me in Paris” event will fill the Fairfield Glade Conference Center with gala evening of everything French.

Evening festivities begin with a cocktail hour followed by an exquisite sit-down dinner of French cuisine. Cabaret style entertainment with the Swing Street Orchestra will keep the festivities hopping. Dinner will be followed by both live and silent auctions, with an enthusiastic Mayor Kenneth Carey hosting the live auction.

Tickets for this entertaining Art Guild fundraiser are $50 per person and can be purchased at the Plateau Creative Arts Center, 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine) in Fairfield Glade. Historic Ramsey House will welcome David Madden who will be presenting a dramatization of the opposing views of these two dynamic, outspoken advisories that were so prominent during the Civil War in East Tennessee. Mr. Madden is a well-known author of historic novels and speaks on history and historic events. Ramsey House will provide light refreshments.

A Derby Fundraiser at the Southern Railway Station. Jockeys & Juleps activities include: Red Carpet Arrival, Ladies' Fancy Hat Contest, Gentlemen's Bowtie Contest, Bourbon Tasting, Pictures with a Thoroughbred, Horseshoe Tournament, Derby-inspired Hors d'oeurves.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Rotary Foundation of Knoxville's charitable work and are used to fund college scholarships, elementary school libraries, clean water projects, and to provide tickets for underprivileged youth to see and participate in theater, opera, and symphony performances in Knoxville. Come to Old Gray Cemetery and sip lemonade while meeting Col. John Bell Brownlow, Ellen Renshaw House, and Captain James Rogers McCallum. Enjoy a stroll through the cemetery grounds and experience firsthand the evidence of the struggle that happened here 150 years ago. The graves of over 260 men who served in the Civil War will be marked with flags appropriate to their military service. A special program at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2nd will feature a short historical program with several speakers. Two of the speakers will be historical re-enactors representing the reflections of John Bell Brownlow (Union) and James Rogers McCallum (Confederate) in 1890 on the war and its aftermath.

This event is part of the Blue & Gray Reunion and Freedom Jubilee in conjunction with the State of Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Event.

Smoky Mountain Bike Rodeo May 2, 2015 at 10:30. Held at the Maryville Farmers Market, Founders Square, East Broadway, Maryville, Tennessee.
The Coulter Grove Unicycle Club will be demonstrating their skills at 10:30.

A bicycle safety clinic and rodeo that allows participants 7 to 9 years old to learn and practice bicycle skills will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Registration is now open for the Second Annual Smoky Mountain Bicycle Skills Rodeo.

The clinic will provide children ages 7 to 9 with an introduction to bicycle safety, including rules of the road, bike and maintenance, bike helmet, and bicycle skills. Free helmets are available for children who do not have a safe, properly fitting one. Free backpacks will be given to children completing the course. Participation will take about one hour, and appointments are available with preregistration.
