Tennessee Stage Company: A Benefit Production of My Three Angels
Category: Kids, family and Theatre
November 5 – 15: 8:00 pm Thursday – Saturday, 3:00 pm Sunday matinees
Sam & Bella Spewack’s classic comedy, My Three Angels, as part of the 7th Timeless Works Series Production
The Tennessee Stage Company, known to Knoxville audiences for Shakespeare On The Square and the New Play Festival returns to our Timeless Works series this autumn with the Sam & Bella Spewack’s classic comedy, My Three Angels. This (almost) gentle comedy is the story of a three desperate, but unconventional, criminals who provide a loving, but struggling family with a most happy and unexpected Christmas. My Three Angels is a collaboration with the Historic Southern Railway Station newly renovated and now being operated as an event space by the Blueslip Winery. This beautiful structure makes a perfect backdrop for the simplicity and whimsy of our Timeless Works productions. Timeless Works was conceived by the Stage Company as a benefit series to help raise funds for our other programs, Shakespeare On The Square, the New Play Festival and our Education and Outreach programs. All the artists donate their time and talents and all funds raised go directly back into the work of the Company.
Tickets ($15) may be purchased through our online booking system at http://tennesseestage.com/home/events, by phone at (865) 546-4280, or at the door the night of the show. At the Historic Southern Railway Station, 300 West Depot Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.

Smoky Mountain Blues: Sara Jordan Birthday Bash
Category: Fundraisers and Music
The Smoky Mountain Blues Society will produce an 8-Band extravaganza in a heartwarming remembrance to Knoxville Blues Diva, Sara Jordan. This will be the Sixth Annual Sara Jordan Birthday Bash! Jordan was born November 15, 1955 in a log cabin in Wayne County, Ky., and moved to Knoxville at the age of 5. Her initial exposure to the music she mastered came from the church. In 1997, she told Glynn Wilson of Metropulse Magazine; "Everything I have comes from God," she says. "My reputation, my voice, everything."
Before her untimely death in May 2001, Sara Jordan was known as Knoxville’s “Queen of the Blues”, and to this day her crown remains unclaimed. With a big earthy voice and the stage presence to go with it, she lived and breathed the Blues like no one in this town has since the legendary Ida Cox. She performed in several bands - The Delta Flyers, Jordan Project, Mojo, and The Leftovers with whom she performed memorably at the 2000 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. She was also the creative force behind “Ladies Sing the Blues” at The Bijou Theatre in 1999 and the original Blues Jam at Sassy Ann’s, which spawned numerous Blues jams around East Tennessee.
The event begins at 7pm on stage at Relix Variety Theater at An $8.00 (or $5.00 for members) cover charge will provide over 3 hours of amazing live BLUES. For this special evening all musicians donate their talent to honor the Queen and raise much needed funds for The InterFaith Health Clinic. The Clinic supported Sara with essential services and comfort in her final days. InterFaith Health Clinic provides affordable and comprehensive health care to people who are working without health insurance, like so many of our area musicians.
