Bijou Theatre: An Intimate Evening of Songs and Stories with Graham Nash
Category: Music
Legendary artist Graham Nash is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee - with Crosby, Stills, and Nash and with the Hollies. He was also inducted twice into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, as a solo artist and with CSN, and he is a GRAMMY Award winner.
Towering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his first seventy-five years on this planet, stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of the past half-century. His remarkable body of work, beginning with his contributions to the Hollies opus from 1964 to ’68, including “Stop Stop Stop,” “Pay You Back With Interest,” “On A Carousel,” “Carrie Anne,” “King Midas In Reverse,” and “Jennifer Eccles,” continues all the way to This Path Tonight (2016), his most recent solo album.

Women in Black presents WALLS: A Play for Palestine
Category: Theatre
By Knoxville Performing Arts Exchange - $15
Sep 15 & 16 at 7:30 PM, Sep 17 at 2:00 PM.
WALLS: A Play for Palestine returns to Knoxville as part of the 15th anniversary celebration of the Knoxville Area Women in Black. WALLS premiered at the Clarence Brown Lab Theatre in January 2016 before going on to production at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC). The play has been favorably reviewed by "Theatre is Easy" and "CurtainUp." WALLS was a finalist for the Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women and earned the playwright the 2016 Artist of Change Award from Community Shares Tennessee.
WALLS, based on the playwright’s life, tells the story of a teenager’s complex relationship with her traditional Muslim father and her struggle to reconcile her Palestinian roots with her East Tennessee upbringing. Although Diaspora Child clashes with her father over dating, prom, and clothing, she yearns to connect with her heritage on her own terms. As Diaspora Child reads history textbooks and learns Arabic, Mother Palestine appears to tell the story of her traumatic history. WALLS explores the issues of immigration and diaspora, parent-child relationships, and the often forgotten history of the Palestinian people. For more information about the show, visit: WallsPlay.com. You can also find a Facebook page for the play and for Knoxville Area Women in Black.

McClung Museum: Northwest Coast Art: A Community of Tradition
Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts, Free event, History, heritage and Science, nature
For thousands of years Northwest Coast Indians including the Coast Salish, Haida, Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw, Makah, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Tlingit peoples represented in this exhibition, have made art expressing their cultural norms and values with precision, clarity, and artistic exuberance. Using indigenous and trade materials obtained in their homes along the coast of Oregon and north to Alaska, Northwest coast peoples mark elaborate ceremonial life, social rank, and prestige through their objects and art.
This exhibition explores Northwest Coast art through over 60 objects made by known and unknown artists, representing traditional and modern forms of cultural expression. From model totem poles and bentwood boxes, to spoons, prints, and silver bracelets, these objects were created for different purposes––utilitarian, decorative, and ceremonial. What all of them share in common is the desire to preserve and perpetuate Northwest Coast cultural heritage and community.
McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, 1327 Circle Park Dr on the UT campus, Knoxville, TN 37996. Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9AM-5PM, Sunday, 1-5PM. Information: 865-974-2144, http://mcclungmuseum.utk.edu
