During his time on campus, Prince will work with faculty and students in the School of Art Printmaking Program in the creation of a large woodcut and a stone lithograph. His exhibition is co-sponsored by the Beck Cultural Exchange Center and his campus visit is supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Engagement and the UT School of Art.

Join us for the 4th Annual Cheers to Clean Water Celebration on September 12th, 2020, benefiting the Water Quality Forum! This year, we are headed back to the south waterfront at Suttree Landing Park for the 2020 Tennessee River Paddle-Off to celebrate the amazing resource we have in our backyards, the Tennessee River!
Participants are encouraged to bring a kayak, canoe, or paddle board and take part in a competitive race, or just float and enjoy the river. There are two route options: from Suttree Landing Park to the western tip of Dickinson Island, or from Suttree Landing Park and going up and around Dickinson Island. Friendly floaters can go as far as they would like.
Following the float is a celebration in the name of clean water at Suttree Landing Park, with craft libations from Alliance Brewing Company Printshop Beer Co., & Hi-Wire Brewing, live bluegrass music from Check Engine, a chance to take home a giveaway, and educational activities for adults and kids alike.
With full registration, participants will receive entry to the event, one dry bag (13.75"), one 16oz steel cup, and 2 drink tickets. Race Only and Kids 12 & under race registrants receive entry to the event and one dry bag. Celebration only registrants receive entry to the event, one 16oz steel cup, and 2 drink tickets. Those who want to free float the river as part of this event receive free entry, with suggested donation of $5.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Water Quality Forum, a coalition of diverse partners working together to keep our waters in East Tennessee clean. A portion of the proceeds go directly to WaterFest, the Water Quality Forum’s largest annual education event. The event serves 800 students in kindergarten through third grade, introducing them to water science concepts and engaging them in fun, hands-on activities that teach them about their local water resources and how to protect them.
Boats are available for rent from Knoxville Adventure Collective, but supplies are limited! Make sure to choose desired boat upon registration.
The City of Knoxville Waste and Resources Management Department is facilitating a river cleanup by boat! This will take place DURING the race. A limited number of boats will be provided.
THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT. In the event of severe weather, boaters will be required to get off the water as quickly as possible. Dogs are welcome, on leash and well-behaved.

IMPORTANT: Parking is VERY LIMITED. Please consider carpooling, cycling, or walking to the event. There is a free lot at 2011 Kay Street, less than a mile from the event. We want to respect our neighbors and not crowd the residential streets. Thank you!

How does it work?

You come to the Sustainable Future Center between 9 - 11am, start your tour at our site and then you'll sign up for other tours at our front desk. Then you're off! Most sites are within 15 minutes of us. (you will be driving yourself to the other sites)

This is your chance to see permaculture sites in different stages of development, observe and ask questions.

First on the tour is the Sustainable Future Center where we will showcase our burgeoning practice of permaculture design. View the sites, systems, and regenerative practices put in place in the five years since the center's inception.

Meet some of the people who farm, garden, teach, and create at the Sustainable Future Center, as well as connect with your permaculture/farming community.

2ND ANNUAL CARPETBAG THEATRE DAY

On September 12th, 2019, then Mayor Madeline Rogero and the 111th General Assembly officially named September 12th Carpetbag Theatre Day here in Knoxville, TN! We are eternally grateful and intend to celebrate it to the fullest from here forward!

In celebration, we will be streaming on Facebook Live a screening of the hit stage production, “Red Summer”. If you missed it the first time, you don’t want to miss this!

The play will be performed Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; and Sundays at 3 PM.

Knoxville Children’s Theatre will present a live production of “HOLES” based on the 1998 award-winning novel by Louis Sachar, and the 2003 adventure comedy film produced by Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures.

Tickets will be limited to 60 attendees for each performance and groups/families will be distanced from each other. Masks will be required for entry.

The play focuses on Stanley Yelnats, a troubled kid who is sent to a boys’ detention center, Camp Green Lake. The warden tells the boys that they must dig holes five feet wide by five feet deep in order to “build character.” But Stanley soon realizes that this isn’t the real reason they’re being subjected to such treatment. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something, and Stanley will do his best to dig up the truth.

The show is directed by Artistic Director Dennis E. Perkins.

Join the Fun! While the traditional fair is not happening this year, the fair fun will continue!

On Friday, Sept 11th we will be offering a Fair Food To-Go event from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the area which is usually Kiddieland. We have 5 great local food vendors that will be participating.

On Saturday, Sept 12th the Junior Dairy show will be held at the barns. In addition, the state cornhole tournament will be going on in Patriot Circle beginning at 10:00 AM. Fair Food To-Go will also be offered from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

The Cotton Candy Classic 5K Virtual Edition will be held how until September 20th.
