FEATURING
Laura Cresté is the author of You Should Feel Bad, which was selected by Stephanie Burt for a 2019 Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship. She holds an MFA in Poetry from New York University and a BA from Bennington College. The winner of Breakwater Review’s 2016 Peseroff Prize, her poems have appeared in journals including No Tokens, Tinderbox, and Bodega. She has received support from the Community of Writers, the Kettle Pond Writers' Conference, and will be a 2021-2022 fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.

Ranjani Murali is an Indian writer who lives in suburban Chicago. She received her MFA in Poetry from George Mason University, following which she won the Srinivas Rayaprol Prize for emerging Indian poets; fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and the Fine Arts Works Center in Provincetown; and the inaugural Prabha Khaitan Woman's Voice Award. Her first book of poems, Blind Screens, won the Almost Island inaugural manuscript prize and her second book, Clearly You Are ESL, won the Editors’ Choice Award in The (Great) Indian Poetry Collective’s manuscript competition and was published in 2020.

Jeannine Ouellette is the author of The Part That Burns, a memoir in fragments. Her work has appeared in Calyx, Narrative, North American Review, Masters Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Writer’s Chronicle, among others, and in several anthologies including Ms. Aligned: Women Writing About Men and Women’s Lives: Multicultural Perspectives. Her work has been supported by Millay Colony for the Arts and Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts. She teaches writing through the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop, and Elephant Rock, an independent creative writing program she founded in 2012. She is working on her first novel.

Disrupting Organizational Disparities: A Chief Leadership Challenge Post 2020

The Billie Grace Goodrich Distinguished Lecture Series and the Bogue Lecture Series presents Jerlando F. L. Jackson as our 2021 guest lecturer. Jackson is the Vilas Distinguished Professor of Higher Education, Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, and the Director and Chief Research Scientist of Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei Lab) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jackson's lecture, "Disrupting Organizational Disparities: A Chief Leadership Challenge Post 2020” will be presented Wednesday, February 24, from 1-2:30 PM EST via Zoom presentation.

The UT World Percussion Ensemble gives its first of two outdoor, socially-distanced concerts featuring our steel band. Steel pans are the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. This concert will highlight arrangements of socas, the popular music style of Trinidad and Tobago, and will also feature an arrangement by graduate student, Tyler Stark. Bring a chair if you want to sit, or you can get up and dance with us!

If you're unable to make it in person, the event will be livestreamed. A link will be posted a few minutes before the concert begins.

The Silent auction will go live on Monday, February 22, and the Specialty auction will begin at approximately 7:45 pm on Feb. 27.

The Silent Auction will close Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 9:30 pm. By bidding you expressly authorize the Knoxville Symphony League (KSL) to use the credit card registered to your account to fulfill any payment owed. Invoices will be emailed to successful bidders after payment is processed.

All auction items are pick-up only. You may pick up auction items starting Tuesday, March 2, 2021, 12 pm-4 pm at the KSO office located at 100 S. Gay Street Suite 302. Masks are required for entering the building. Additional pick-up hours are Monday-Friday 9 am-4 pm. If you do not pick up items before March 24th you will be deemed to have donated the items to the KSL and KSL will be able to resell the item at its discretion.

The WordPlayers offers a show for Black History Month. The Ends We Seek - a one act play with music by Ethan Norman - is a work of historical fiction, which moves between actual events in the 19th and 20th centuries. The play vividly and powerfully illustrates how major historical events — Lincoln’s election and Emancipation Proclamation, as well as the movement for civil rights inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — impacted the lives of ordinary individuals and families. A mother and a son, in two different centuries, play out the average person’s struggle with life in a dysfunctional society rife with racism. Scenes of daily life play out against a backdrop of history and lead us through moments where national, social, and political turmoil have lasting and powerful effects on ordinary families. With sharp dialogue, inspired by true stories, and with captivating musical interludes, The Ends We Seek personalizes and humanizes the experience of ordinary people swept up in the events of history.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts invites you to experience the 20th Sevier County Biennial Juried Exhibition. This exhibition is a juried, mixed media art exhibition presented by Arrowmont to recognize and foster the skills and talents of artists and makers who call the region of Sevier County home.

Features 76 original works created by 51 Sevier County, Tennessee artists. This is the first show open to visitors since the onset of the pandemic. Mary Welch Thompson, award-winning basket weaver, juried the 20th Sevier County Biennial. She said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for all of us. Viewing this art let me forget for a short time. I had fun; it has been a learning experience and a challenge to select the Best of Show and the Awards of Merit pieces. The vibrant colors and imagination really stood out, paying tribute to the beauty of our natural surroundings, our mountain home.”

February 13th Workshop (Cyanotype Prints) 11AM-2PM - Learn one of the original photographic processes! Cyanotype is one of the oldest printing processes invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842. In this workshop, you will learn to make a unique one of a kind handmade print by coating various papers with Cyanotype chemicals and developing them in the sun. A materials fee of $40 is due at or before the event. This class is limited to 5* participants. Be sure to register for the event by Thursday, Feb 11th to secure your spot!

February 23rd Class (Learning Series - The Negative) 6PM-8PM - The Negative will take you inside The Darkroom where you will learn to load and process your film. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

February 24th (Learning Series - The Print) 6PM-8PM - The Print will take you inside The Darkroom where you will learn the basics of enlarger use, burning and dodging and developing finished prints. For this class, you must bring your developed film and B&W photo paper. We suggest buying film and paper locally from F32 near West Town Mall. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.
