UPCOMING CLASSES & WORKSHOPS!
December 3rd Workshop (Cyanotype) 4PM-6PM - In this workshop, you will learn to make a unique one-of-a-kind handmade print by coating various papers with Cyanotype chemicals and developing them in the sun. Bring found objects, plant materials or print digital negatives on acetate. Paper will be provided for the workshop, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like to experiment. You'll need to register for this class at least 2-days in advance so we can get the materials ready for you to use! A materials fee of $60 is due at or before the event.

December 8th Class (Learning Series - The Camera) 6PM-8PM - The Camera will teach you all about analog shooting. Topics covered will be: selecting a camera, camera functions, operating in that mysterious "Manual" mode, metering your subject, lens selection, and more. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

December 10th Workshop (Lumen Printing) 4PM-6PM - Lumen printing is an early photographic process developed in the 19th century. Using sunlight as developer and (mostly) organic objects as subjects, a lumen print makes a creative impression of our physical world. Come learn the fun Lumen process and discover how to apply it in your design and creative process. You will be making prints within minutes in this exciting workshop as you learn to expose and develop your works. A workshop fee of $30 is due at or before the event.

December 12th Class (Learning Series - The Negative) 6PM-8PM - The Negative will take you inside The Darkroom where you will learn to load and process your film. Pricing for this individual class is $60. This class is limited to 3 participants.

Oak Ridge Art Center: Gallery of Holiday Shops

Category: Exhibitions, visual art, Fine Crafts and Free event

A Week of Delights! Due to the unrivaled success of Gallery of Holiday Shops in the past two years, we will host the event for a full week again, making it a week of delights!
Gallery of Holiday Shops will be run from Saturday, December 3 through Saturday, December 10 from 9 to 4 pm each day. We will have some artists and several volunteers here to help you make purchases and package your items. As in the past, we will have one cashier area so each shopper need only make one purchase and will not have to carry all the merchandise around as you shop all the booths. We suggest you make reservations to come to the show when you prefer, but will take walk-ins when, and if, numbers in the building will allow. This annual event offers guests an opportunity to access one-of-a-kind creations by regional artists and artisans in a variety of media. We hope this coincides with the need of members of our community to find beautiful, meaningful items for their loved ones for the holidays in a safe environment.

There is never an admission fee, and proceeds from the artists’ sales will benefit both the artists and the Art Center. Shopping local is a great way to support regional artists, the Art Center, and our local economy.

Forrest Isn't Dead
Known for his introspective and candid lyrics, Atlanta based Alt/Pop artist Forrest Isn’t Dead pours out the stories of his life experiences and hardships through his unique and thought-provoking music. Growing up with a single mother and limited resources, Forrest Kleindienst found early inspiration in music and skateboarding, which played a major role in developing his feelings about life and love. He later dove head first into writing original music, learning to play drums, guitar, piano, and of course singing. “My mom had to work full time to care for the two of us. After school I would spend all of my time skateboarding or locked in my room working on music. It kept me out of trouble most of the time; and gave me something more to look forward to.”, said Forrest. Artists such as The Cure, My Chemical Romance, and Prince were big influences on his creative direction, but battling adversity and overcoming his own challenges were a benchmark towards shaping the person he is today. Forrest Isn't Dead recently signed with Madison Records and released his debut singles and videos for “The Light” & "Here We Are", which draws parallels such as Gorillaz, Tame Impala and M83. Forrest’s latest single, “Fire” is from his upcoming album and features co-production from Passion Pit producer Alex Aldi.

Elijah Cruise
Elijah Cruise is a Nashville-based producer and alternative pop artist enchanting his listeners with rich melodies and embracing lyrics blending unique dark tones and elements of electronica. With over 230,000 streams on Spotify since April this year, he has collaborated with notable electronic duo WE ARE FURY featuring in the single, “Poem of A Killer'' rising to a striking 72,000 streams in less than 2 weeks & being featured on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Nightingale. Elijah has released his debut EP “Life Can Be Strange” at the start of his career in 2019 and released his next anticipated EP “Sufføcating / The Eulogy” in May 2022.

Shayla McDaniel
Shayla McDaniel is a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist crafting guitar-driven alt pop in Knoxville, Tennessee. Driven, productive, and prodigiously talented, McDaniel is now poised to emerge a world-class artist with a uniquely emotive indie-rock aesthetic. Up next, she will be playing local and regional shows with her band, as well as intimate solo performances for her ever-growing audience. “I feel like I am really finding myself as an artist these days. It’s been such an uplifting journey,” Shayla says. In a short period of time, the young artist has garnered prime accolades. Her song "Bittersweet" was featured on MTV's "Siesta Key." She performed at Rhythm N’ Blooms Music Festival; the Waynestock Festival; Sunset on Central; Women in Jazz Jam Festival; and live on-air at WUTK 90.3 FM, WDVX 89.9 FM, and WOZO 103.9 FM, among other stations. Shayla has been in Knoxville Music Warehouse’s Top 16 song charts; been voted by fans as Knoxville’s Favorite Band; won numerous Knoxville Music Awards; and earned prestigious awards nominations from CityView Magazine and Knoxnews.
